Not being able to eat , so far as my weight is concerned, isn't a problem at the moment, my target is 42 pounds away, but I'd be happy to lose another 70.  It's coping with mood swings - I'd eat when happy to celebrate, eat when miserable to lift my spirits.  Eat when bored, eat when studying....  Janice and I always remember holidays by the special or suprising meals that we've eaten.  Alex is beginning to be the same, so it's good that this will have to change, but it's HARD!!!  I'm never hungry at the moment, which is great, but not eating is almost as bad as a bereavement, believe me.

If I eat too much I throw up, and I am a quick learner to try to reduce this!  It's a bit of a double whammy for me as I can get in all my liquids or, and it's a very big 'or', my protein needs.  It's a good job I'm seeing my consultant next Tuesday so I should be able to get advice.

My longest stall is nearly a month.  My weight remains the same, but I drop a medication or inches.  I've stalled for the last 2 weeks but my insulin requirement went down to 60 units.  My highest was 480 units!!!  I can now wear my only pair of 42 inch trousers, the Rohan bags that I've waited nearly 20 years to wear are too big!  Soon I will have to buy some new trousers, my first new shirt for many years will arrive for Father's Day - from M&S!  I've always bought pants and socks from M&S, but nothing else for soooo many years.

So you used to be an accountant, Janice is an Internal Auditor and may be seeking an accountant qualification soon to increase her employability if there are big cuts in the Civil Service.

No need to feel ashamed, if weight loss was easy no one would be overweight!  You are to be congratulated on your courage in having the op, as are your family.  Big hugs.

306 at op, 250 at 14 weeks, target 206.  Life is good.

....... so do you feel unwell or anything with the not being able to keep up with the eating/drinking - or is it just more of a concern about getting stuff in.  What was your longest stall so far?

We have to bring the extra suitcase... how else would we bring British essentials home?  We actually (after 11 years) are finally done bringing my husband's "life" across from before we met... however we still need things that just cannot be imported into the USA any other way... aka John Smith's!  LOL

Hi, Elaine, you are doing so well! Good for you! And on the NHS!   GRRRRR!

Mind you, the NHS has now taken me over!  The NHS obesity clinic in Reading will do my fills if I ever need more - unfotunately I found that out after I was below my goal weight and so do longer needed fills! But at least if anything nasty happened, I know they will deal with it for me. And my GP arranges my annual barium swallow for me on the NHS.

I love my band but from everything I read the VSG seems like a very effective surgery.

Surgery  vsg, 21/02/10.
Start weight  306.
Currently 250, target 208.
Private, figures show I would have been dead before an NHS date.
Hospital was Bridgend, very good care.  In on Saturday, home on Wednesday.  24 hours in ICU.
Recovery  Variable.  At 14 weeks still cannot eat consistently.  If I drink all my fluids then I have trouble with food, and visa-versa.  It is improving and I'll see the Consultant next Tuesday, so will hear what he has to say.
Cost  About £9000 and 12 weeks sick (with full pay)
The journey itself  Seem to stall for weeks then suddenly lose.  56 pounds in 14 weeks so far.  From 56 inch waist to 44.  5XL shirt to 2XL.  Insulin down from 240 units to 70, off 1 tablet for diabetes, 1 for blood pressure and have all the signs that I do not need treatment for sleep apnoea any more.  Another 42 pounds to go.
Problems  Head hunger!  I want to eat lots, and quickly.  This despite not feeling hungry.  This can be draining and frustrating.
Benefits  Covered under Journey.  Life is good.
Who knows?  Everyone.
