hello all,

well im new to the site, and glad to find a uk site,

i have a website - www.mrsuperobese.co.uk - which i did, for myself and maybe support others as well,

i weigh in at 34 stone 10 lbs,

i had lapband surgery in 2003 - but it did not work for me.
in a few weeks i  will be having the gastric balloon put in for 6 months and when i have lost 20-30% of body weight i willl then be having gastric bypass surgery.

so thats basically it, my life story and blog are on my website, so people can follow it on there if they wish, i also have a facebook group called OVERWEIGHT PEOPLES GROUP which people can join. its just a place to vent, share ideas etc.

anyway take care all

Thanks! I don't go there very often these days as I get so fed up with the arguments! But someone has to put forward the fact that the stats that get thrown out are often ludicrous! One poster (she has me blocked now because I asked her for her sources!) keeps on saying that the vast majority of bands are removed within 5 years. Never tells people that those stats include the old bands and also the ones implanted suing a now obsolete technique!

So i do get involved sometimes! But I NEVER diss any other surgery! They all have their place! And I so agree - people need to research all teh options.

To be honest, I had a difficult time finding this board. Although I am from the States, it's always nice to know there is a support in the UK. We don't get to visit often, but at least I know you guys are there.

LOL I stay far, FARRR away from surgery arguments. They are pointless. I'd rather provide all available info and research, and then encourage people to make their decisions based on fact and what best suits their own personal lifestyle. I also encourage them to research WLS rather than gastric bypass or Lap Band. Most people are simply unaware of all the choices and how each tool works.

BTW I think that your posts on the main board are great. It helps dispel the misinformation and rumors that people have about Lap Band.

OH is an excellent site! Of course, like any other message boards, there is sometimes inaccurate info posted and we do get spats about surgery types...!

But, yes, I agree - a good place to come and learn from the experience of others!

He's actually from North Berwick, but I believe it is considered an outlying suburb. If I didn't have grown children & young grandchildren here in the States we would have already relocated to Edinburgh.

I think that it's wonderful that this site offers so much support to people from different parts of the world. I am a Registered Nurse (hence the rn after my name- not meaning Royal Navy LOL). I do telephonic health education with the public and I refer baritric patients and those thinking about WLS to this site all the time.

Welcome! Not sure why but we have more members on here from the North of the UK, including Scotland than we do from elsewhere! Although I think the Scottish ones are from the Glasgow and Aberdeen areas not Edinburgh!

It's a very quiet board so far - not all that much wls done over here - but we make up in friendliness what we lack in numbers!

 Hi all
My name is Lisa, I had RNY 8 months ago. I generally frequent the main OH board, but do not always get to post frequently, mainly due to work demands. I LOVE the UK. My husband is originally from one of the Edinburgh suburbs. We try to visit family when we can, but sometimes that can be quite difficult.
