awwww thx T, you are so kind , all is going really well for me - I'm trying to settle into my new lifestyle of exercise and healthy eating, but I still mostly feel that I'm pretending and someone's gonna pull me up for trespassing in their world lol!!!
How are you keeping, and hows that back of yours doing.

Hi--if you go to the blue band above the headline for this forum you'll see "Forums" and when the dropdown menu opens you'll see the various forums for the different surgery types. Go there and check out the descriptions of the surgeries and then lurk to read the various discussions.
Good luck!

Just to say thank you to all of you for responding.
I'm so glad that each of you have been able to give me a considered opinion on other forms of wls. I don't feel quite so stupid for considering a band, nor pressured into having more drastic surgery!
I have now had the appointment with my doctor and he has been very supportive. Just waiting for the PCT to come back now, so a few weeks at least before I hear anything.
I gues that my prefered treatment is the band because I see it as less invasive, it can be done laprascopically and the recovery time is quicker, but I'm not discounting that the surgeon might recommend something else entirely when I get to see him.
I have been so scared about having wls. It's taken me over 2 years to come to this decision, and you have all made me feel so much more positve that this is the right thing to do.
Thanks you so much.

Hi everyone
Still ongoing pain which has ended me up in A&E once already. Have to go for another test to check no stones are stuck in biliary and this is taking ages so not seeing the surgeon again til 17th Sept so god no knows when they will whip it out??? Painfree for 1 week but Ive got period pain instead...grump! I now have to go to A&E with any severe bout of pain and they might remove it then but no promises plus I just found out the appointed NHS Sugeon is now on holiday for a month. Good for him! So think this may mean my A&E trips will just end up in Tramadol and more blood tests.
Funnily enough I have stopped loosing altogether. I dont know why but Im stuck at 13 stone 12.5lbs
Not a clue why but figure the stones must be a bit heavy? Hair falling out again due to lower protein intake where Im trying to eat very low fat to avoid further pain.
Ill keep you posted but yes be your own advocate. We know our bodies so we should push for a result.

Hi !!
So glad you made it! As you can see-as I told you..you will get LOTS of really helpful and varied information. In my opinion-it is the BEST thing you can do -is to ask LOTS of questions to lots of folks. It's how we do our research.
Keep notes and keep asking-you will find what is best for YOU.
You have now heard from a Band, VSG-er and now me-RNY'er.
We are all having our own success-and none of the surgeries are without their risk.
I think just REALLY understanding how each surgery works and life after-are the MOST important things you can study. Armed with all of that information-you can TELL your doctors what you think YOU need.
Certainly-there is no guarantee that you will be approved-but sometimes having all the facts and information in hand can move things along.
I am looking forward to "seeing" you around the boards!
Cheers,
T

Thank GOODNESS you were your best advocate. I swear that we have to be. I cannot tell you how MANY times I have had to go into the GP with research notes in hand-to EXPLAIN first-what is wrong with me-and two-how to treat it! SCARY!!
I am glad you will be OK.
And YAY on the onederland express!! Ain't it GRAND?!?!?!!? Congrats!!!
Feel MUCH better!

Hi Karl,
I am in Lancashire. Have you received any info as of yet?
We can ALL understand about the LOTS of diets and exercise issues as well. I know before my surgery-I really wasn't able to walk without aid.
Stick around and keep asking questions. The folks on the this board are all VERY helpful and knowledgable. Yes-the board can be quiet at times-but each time another person joins and starts a conversation-more folks jump in.
If you can-let us know more about what specifically you are looking for. Do you know what sort of surgery you are looking for? Have you learned yet what to expect from your consultation??
Let us know and we can be helpful as well!
Cheers and WELCOME!! :)

Some people do very well with the band, but it does have a bad press. My surgeon, Prof Baxter, will not band patients. I went in for a bypass but came out with a vsg because my anatomy wouldn't support a bypass. Basically the best loss is with bypass but you're on supplements for the rest of your life and you need to beware of dumping (LOL). I've lost over 60 pounds over 4 months with vsg and don't feel hungry. I'm just taking a daily multivitamin. Statistically the band shows the least weight loss and has that bad press, some people do really well with it, there are lots of revisions to vsg or bypass posted on OH. I understand that the band is the easiest on the patient, but the vsg was a doddle. Ask lots of questions and do the research. Best of luck!!
