Oh Ruth! You are just the best for doing a review of this!! Thanks!! Yes-please read the book. It is very beautifully done and I think it is perfect for young and old alike. I bet you will love it!!

I wondered if they would have a hard time filling in all the detail in the movie. It makes sense that they might not be successful-since the book is so incredibly rich in detail!

Thanks again,
T

I've not heard of the Cambridge diet for years...my mum used to sell it when I was a teenager, I didn't know it was still around.

Interesting to know it's low carb.  I've started slim fast today, just liquids for me for as long as I can to kickstart something in my body and mind.  Easter was a nightmare for me - I was like an alcoholic being left alone with open bottles of alcohol, being left alone with all the chocolate in the house.  But slimfast isn't low carb and not particularly high protein.

Where do you get the cambridge from?

Thanks, Ruth

Hi ya T,

My reads are varied. Right now I'm into African literature. I so enjoyed reading Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie that I've worked my way back to her earlier novel, Purple Hibiscus. Both novels are set in Nigeria, the first a historical novel based on the Nigerian civil war (Biafran war) in the 60's. The second based on the life of a young girl whose father is a Catholic religious fanatic, who while generous and respected to the rest of the community is repressive and violent in the home and is quite intolerant of all traditional practices. I am waiting for an Amazon delivery of Chimamanda's latest collection of short stories called 'That thing around your neck' which has stories based on her experiences of life in both Nigeria and USA. Coming with that book, is another collection of short stories by a new Zimbabwean author called Petina Gappah. Her story collection is called An Elegy for Easterly - stories set in Zimbabwe. Can't wait for both books.

I managed to find time to finish reading Purple Hibiscus and with a few free(ish) days left, I want to read 'The Interpretation of Murder' by Jed Rubenfeld next. I picked it up on a train sometime ago. Will be leaving it somewhere public too.

On the plus size clothing front, I managed to find some capsule wardrobe pieces to give me different looks. Sale prices all round so for one used to being robbed blind, the prices were 'good' compared with what I have paid before but nowhere near as cheap as regular size sale prices.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner Ruth.

I'm doing the Cambridge Diet. For me, the low carb content is so effective at keeping hunger at bay once you are in ketosis.

I'm NHS funded & hoping surgery will be in May 09. Yep, the funding was quick for me too. Manchester PCT seems to have it's act together. I saw a consultant on 19/12/08 and he applied for funding which came through early January 09.

No, I use multi-vitamin and take two instead of one.  So far so good according to my GP, but I don't get nearly as comprehensive blood tests done as they do in the US.

I went private - went to Brugge, Belgium.  Tried on NHS, but got told at 19st with bmi of 42 I wasn't large enough to qualify, even though I had a ton of co-morbidities.  Sigh.

It totally frustrates me as I have saved the NHS thousands of pounds by getting this done - I no longer have any weight related health issues that the NHS were paying for and with all the prescriptions I was on too.

I think it is very short sighted for it not to be considered on NHS for more people.
