It seems to be random whether you get NHS funded or not or what is used a qualifying conditions - that doesn't seem right to me.  Post Code lottery...very unfair

I had my Gastric bypass done privately- I tred to get it done on the NHS, but was told I didn't qualify as I didn't have any obesity related health conditions ( That may be, but I was nearly 370lbs, and would've at some point developed something- I've always thought prevenion was better than cure, but hey ho!).

Even though the bypass cost me an arm and a leg, it was the best thing I've ever done and I would do it again a heartbeat! I have two years aftercare with my surgeon and his team, who are great, but my GP is also great, as she fought for me with the NHS referal. I have all my vitamins and other post-op medication from my GP-this saves me a fortune as prescriptions are free in Wales!

I have alot of friends that I have met on facebook through various WLS groups that have had their ops done on the NHS. It has made me quite angry on occassions, especially as one friend had a bypass at 18stone with no obesity related conditions- I'm not mad at her, just mad at her- just mad at the system! BUt oh well, it's done now, and I'm getting my life back, so it's all worth it in the end!

I did a new simple baked tofu recipe and I like it.

Just slice some firm tofu into 1/2 inch slices and pat them dry and put in baking dish. Brush with a little olive oil and do a pinch of salt and pepper on them and bake for 10 min at 225 c or 450 f. Also

While thats baking mix this up

2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon olive
1 tablespoon sesame seed oil
1 teaspoon sesame seeds (can do flax seed crushed too)
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 tablepoons chopped scallions

Take the tofu out after the 10 minutes and spoon this onto each one and bake for another 5 minutes.

I served this over some whole grain bulgar and baked veggies. I also tossed the bulgar and veggies with 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1/4 white vinegar. I also added in some rinsed and drained beans.

Its a nice fiber and protien rich dish. I also ate it cold but it can be eaten warm as well.

I am not NHS because I am in Sweden but I am getting it done via the publically funded health care system and not paying privately.

So far it seems to be moving along rather well. I am under the 40 bmi (just by a small amount though) with no co-morbidities and I had no problem getting approved. I now have my appt with the nutritionist next week and after that I get a surgical appt. The surgeon said it would be 2 to 3 months, but the hosptial home page says they dont do surgeries in summer so I am not sure what that will mean for me since those 2 to 3 months would mean a summer surgery.

Hello my friends in the UK...I am from the USA and read all of Kates' posts, so I thought I'd make some new friends on the other side!!  I had  gastric stapling in 1982 and lost 120lbs, but unfortunately gained it all back fairly quickly.  Started researching revisions in 2008 and ended up having a lap band placed over my old stapling in 12/08 and so far my weight loss is slow.  I've lost 26 lbs since surgery but hope to add to my total next Tuesday when I see my Doc.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and if you're anything at all like Kate, then you're great people!!!

Cambridge is very much alive and kicking. I only learnt about it 5 years ago when I did it 'furiously' for 7 months and lost 9 & half stone. Gained that back quickly and with interest. I'm only on it again now because I will have an RNY to rely on for long-term weight management.

I get my packs from a CDC, a cambridge diet counsellor who is licensed to supply. There are quite a few around, even a UK website that will tell you who your nearest CDC is.

Hi Kate!

Ugh-I know. I am concerned about what to take for my next set of vits. I brought enough Centrum Adult to last a few months and next month I will need to purchase new. I also need to look at Calcium with D.

Maybe we need to do some serious web surfing for UK only companies-so the shipping won't kill us!

Talk soon,
