Hello Amanda and WELCOME!!!

Well-may I say that you have a great attitude. This is a HUGE change to undergo and it takes MUCH work indeed.

Have you met Kate "Katespost" yet? She is OH's star LapBand success lady. She has GREAT information and does post on this board as well. I just wanted to recommend you checking out some of her posts as well.

I TOTALLY understand about the not being very physical. I started out that way-I mean-I REALLY didn't like to move at all. Little by little I have extended my movements. I LOVE that you are going to be seeing a fitness instructor. Please let me know how that goes and what you think-as I am sort of considering that myself!! I am very curious to know what you think of it.

Please come by anytime and share. We would LOVE to hear more from you.

Welcome again!

Therese

Topic: Lap Band/Pregnancy Analogy - Just for Fun

I wrote the following on the Lap Band site - thought maybe it could apply to other WLS surgeries too...

This has maybe been done before, but I got to thinking about the lap-band and the subsequent weight loss process like pregnancy...  (I don't mean to exclude fellas - this can be your pregnancy too)

The First Trimester

- You get a small thing put inside you and at first no one would notice the difference.
- panic - what are you going to do with this little thing - everyone says it is precious - every one says you won't regret it...  But what if it doesn't work for you???
- Some women "show" quicker than others.
- Some women get sick and some don't
- There's a whole list of foods and activities that are ill advised - booze, caffeine, nicotine, contact sports...  some just for the beginning some for the duration...
- You've to supplement your diet...
- you get constipated...
- you need to pee a lot
- Your tired all the time
- You estrogen levels are playing havoc with your mood - will you be done for murder before the month is out - or will you have married your cat?? - nobody knows...

The Second Trimester

- a peaceful time when you are getting bigger by the day - no - for us it is a peaceful time because the restriction is in place and we are getting smaller every day
- you've new found energy

The Third Trimester

- You just can't wait to hit your target - to have a healthy individual to look after and maintain...
- You've got a final push to make...

The beginning of the rest of your life...
- Every one is so proud - their is a party to be had, but you can't get drunk (I mean stuff your face) cause you've got this whole new person to maintain....

Moral of the story - this vessel is going to give birth to the new you - Love and nurture your self like you would your unborn child....

I don't know much about the 2nd and 3rd parts - so please add your comparisons!

Hello every one - my name is Amanda Binggeli - I live in Aberdeen I'm on OH because I had Lap-band surgery on the 1st of september 2009.  So far I love the boards...

I turned 30 this year, and decided it was high time I got my life in order - all my friends had moved away/gotten married/had babies, and there I was still single, same flat (same heating problems, same broken shower, same broken kitchen), same job, same weight problem, same car, same glasses.....  I had finished my Masters, and now I was out of education again it was time to do something else with my time.  I had been planning another degree until I realised what I need to do was change my life.

I can resume the thirst for knowledge later - as now what I'd really like is to meet some one and setlle down with real children - as apposed to hoarding a million cats (I have 3 residents and 1 I need to re-home)...

My greatest stuggle is I guess.... The lack of restriction - I've not had a fill yet...  But this is not really a problem yet - with some self control I am sticking to the diet like I did on pre band diets...  Except this is the longest I have gone without crisps, chocolate or pizza since I started at the age of 2 probably...

I am still at the cheese though - but tiny amounts with my tiny meals - and its all good!

My hobbies are largely sitting in front of the tv, surfing the web, puzzles, DS, playing scrabble, going to the cinema, going to see friends, they all live miles away so I drive - does any one see the pattern?  I like to do any thing that invloves sitting down....  But jus****ch that all change!  I have an appointment with a fitness instructor.... I am going to pay someone to kick my bum into gear!

Thanks for listening! xxx

You can buy Forceval over the counter in the UK. It seems to be widely recommended by UK bariatric surgeons. It is, according to my pharmacist, the most comprehensive multi vit available in the UK. It's a largish capsule that's surprising easy to swallow even early post -op RNY. It dissolves in the pouch.

First off Myself and the whole of Team 100k wants to thank everyone who has donated to http://www.justgiving.com/team100k/ raising £125.

Team 100k members are, Joby, Rafe, Emma, Anna and Myself.

Around 6.30am Joby picked me up and off we went to the start line, Traffic was pretty bad as we got there and it was fun to watch people with bikes on their car roofs drive under low trees, no, not funny, wrong I mean.

Well today was the big day, just over 2 months on from my last 100k ride (Manchester to Blackpool) I am sat at the start line ready to go.

I had quite a low number for Blackpool (I was 500 from 9000) so decided for this event to register on the day and get a higher number, It was painless doing so but there was big queues and I wont be doing that again, I was Allocated 3596

So a little before 9am Team 100k and I set off, The weather was a little chilly but dry with little wind, a stark contrast to how the rest of this week has been, thankfully.

The early pace was pretty good holding around 17mph but once the first 10% hill hit my hip wasn't for playing ball game.

Just after this picture was such a hill and I found myself pretty quickly struggling to hit 15mph but I pushed on and eventually we got to a first aid stop for Mr Magoo

SwollenToFuck

Not too sure what had happened to him but once he had his eyes washed out the swelling went down and off we went again.

A little like having a child in the car with you on a long journey Guru Rafe declared “I need a pee" AGAIN…This was the trend for most of the day, Guru Rafe may yet be renamed to “I Need To Pee Rafe"

Around 30 miles in we took a rest and filled out bottles, While Rafe had a pee.

With around 20 miles to go we stopped to refill our bottles and let Rafe have a pee.

We rode out from here as a team but after about 5 miles my hip was again KILLING and I started falling away with around 13 miles for so to go I pulled over and snapped this picture.

pulled over.

At this point, mentally, I wasn't in a great place, A few seconds later someone stopped and I just kept my head down, messing with my phone, I didn't really want to talk, The person asked if I was blogging, I said “no just texting" The person then introduced himself as Chris (@ChrisB112) Someone I had never met but had exchanged messages with on Twitter, He too was in a pretty bad place mentally (He however was doing the 100 Mile) We agreed it would be good to help each other out and kicked off, initially we held 14 mph, chatting and enjoying the renewed drive we had found by seeing each other, but pretty soon that changed and we were riding even faster, over 20mph at some points, Christ was a gent and waited for me at the top of a hill in Wilmslow, We kicked on not even thinking about pain or how we had struggled, we were holding 18mph and it was a breeze, Chris you sir are a LIFESAVER.

Around 1 mile from the end Joby, Rafe and Anna were waiting, I introduced Chris and before long Emma was with us, We all let pretty good at this point and set off as to finish as a team, Everyone knew tho that Joby, Anna and myself were going to sprint it out and we did, I stretched it a little just before the turn but going up the driveway in Wythenshawe with people coming the other was not ideal condition, Joby and Anna passed me, I hit 25mph swerving between bikes and peds but couldn't go any faster, there was just no room to do it in without risking myself or others, I reeled them both in and was sat on their back wheels as we passed the finish line.

So I didn't win the sprint, but this journey for me is about endurance not sprinting (but I'm bloody good at it, if I do say so myself) I finished my second 100k event this year and who 12 months ago would have thought about that and today I met and rode with some GREAT people (Joby, Emma, Rafe, Anna, Chris)

My Time was 4 Hours and 30 Mins, for 62.5 Miles.

From here I want to do Manchester to Blackpool 2010 in under 3 Hours 30 Mins and in The Manchester 100 next year I want to ride the 100 mile version.
