Topic: Comfort eating

On Tuesday, my doctor checked my blood pressure and weight, and while both were on the higher side, they weren't alarmingly so.

I was encouraged to incorporate regular exercise and make some dietary changes regarding what I've been eating.

This will certainly be a challenge since I've been indulging in too many high-fat, sugary, salty snacks like potato chips, peanuts, and cashew nuts, along with a lot of processed frozen foods like spicy chicken steaks and battered cod. I usually pair these with two plates of Basmati rice and later enjoy side dishes like a toasted cheese sandwich, a steak and kidney pie, and occasionally, a pan of roast potatoes.

Afterward, I often find myself lying down to watch TV before heading to bed.

Overall, my current lifestyle isn't doing my physical or mental health any favors.

I struggle to find the motivation to take control and make positive changes, especially regarding my diet.

At nearly 58 years old, I still grapple with low self-esteem. My anxiety keeps me at home most of the time.

There are moments when I feel like giving up, but I remind myself that I don't want to end up that way.

Still, I often feel down, and that's when I turn to food, which only leads to weight gain, creating a cycle I haven't managed to break.

I wonder what it will take to truly change my life and if I'll find happiness in doing so.

Can anyone else relate to what I'm going through?

By the way, I currently weigh just over 196 pounds and stand at 5 feet 6 inches tall.

So sorry. Not about the cruise, holidays can be rebooked. But that your son is ill enough to warrant cancelling.

My best wishes to you and your family.

I put on two pounds over the holiday...  Advice with the sleeve is dense protein first, then veggies and only then carbohydrate.  I can eat more carbs than anything else, but two hours later I'm ready for more.  Protein keeps me fuller for longer.  As a type 2 diabetic, the fewer carbs I eat the less medication I need.

Hope 2013 is brilliant for you.

Do you do the low carb route? I did try once and I suppose that when I am being good I do go fairly low carb. But for me, any restrictive diet just doesn't work.  I just think of food all the time!

Mind you, half a stone on over Xmas! Not good! Stopped gaining but need to get my head in gear and start LOSING.

Happy New Year, Kate.  Soon I'll post my new, home-made cushion picture and a delicious, low carb stuffing that I've worked on for the last two celebrations.  Stick with me, kid!!

One of our group slipped on ice and broke her arm the first day! We didn't have studs but found our alpine poles useful!
