Just been to the Motorcycle Show at NEC buying presents that are just slightly tight.  Only six months and it's MOTORCYCLE TIME!!!  Three months to the Northern Lights Cruise.  Lost a pound this month - the journey continues!

Have a great Christmas, and many more.

Paul

Enjoy the trip. Layers are the key. Don't imagine sitting in the fridge - that's about 4 Celsius, quite warm. Imagine sitting in the freezer at about minus 18C. Then allow for wind chill.

Gloves!! Not nice fashionable ones! Ski ones. Or mittens are actually warmer. I wore long legged/ sleeved thermals. Corduroy trousers, knee length thick socks, fleece lined wellies, waterproof over- trousers, specialist fleece top, quilted waistcoa****erproof anorak, scarf, thin gloves with lined mittens over them. Woolly hat with anorak hood pulled tight over it. Going on deck at midnight, away from the shore, in a strong wind to see the lights is unimaginably cold!

Even with all that clothing, my legs were purple mottled when I got back to the cabin!

But then you go into a cafe with enormous stove, or into a shop! And it is plus 25C. So you need to strip off!

Up by the Russian border was the worst but I don't think you are going as far north as that are you?

Going right up to the Russian border.  We all have salopettes, thermal underwear etc.  The only problem I can foresee is the cameras freezing up!  We've also bought some studded overshoes, so hopefully we won't be sliding around.

One of our group slipped on ice and broke her arm the first day! We didn't have studs but found our alpine poles useful!

Happy New Year, Kate.  Soon I'll post my new, home-made cushion picture and a delicious, low carb stuffing that I've worked on for the last two celebrations.  Stick with me, kid!!

Do you do the low carb route? I did try once and I suppose that when I am being good I do go fairly low carb. But for me, any restrictive diet just doesn't work.  I just think of food all the time!

Mind you, half a stone on over Xmas! Not good! Stopped gaining but need to get my head in gear and start LOSING.

I put on two pounds over the holiday...  Advice with the sleeve is dense protein first, then veggies and only then carbohydrate.  I can eat more carbs than anything else, but two hours later I'm ready for more.  Protein keeps me fuller for longer.  As a type 2 diabetic, the fewer carbs I eat the less medication I need.

Hope 2013 is brilliant for you.

You off to the North soon? Have a fabulous time and hope the lights perform!
