Not only into Rohan shirts, just went into town and bought 2 new shirts for our Northern Nights cruise in February.  17 inch collars - I HAVEN'T WORN A 17 INCH COLLAR SINCE 1975!!!!  I haven't lost any more weight, but my dimensions are changing still.  Hopefully when this redistribution is over I'll start losing weight again.  2.5 years after the op, it's still working!!

So where are the pictures??

Is Northern Nights like seeing the Northern Lights? If so, hope you have a great time! We LOVED being north of the Arctic Circle! But if you mean a weekend in Blackpool, that could be good too!

Camera is crying quietly in the corner....  Will take a few photos next weekend.
Went to Blackpool for a day a few years ago, never again!  Any tips for a cruise that far north?  We have already bought thermal underwear and will wear lots of layers.  Really looking forward to two weeks of doing very little.

We had the most magical cruise of our lives on board the Hertegruten (sp?) post boat/ferry. It is basically the working mail ship which goes from Bergen up to the Russian border. No swimming pools or entertainment, just very comfortable and superb food and excellent service. About two thirds "cruisers" and one third locals hopping off t various ports. A Norwegian boat so very expensive alcohol but they were happy for you to take our own drink on board a long as you only drank it in your cabin. Don't be misled by the word ferry, it is a very sensible decision go make the most of the essential boat service by upgrading it for tourists.

But we went over Christmas and by accident chose one day too early to cover both xmas and New Year, that meant the boat was almost empty as everyone else went the following day! So instead of about 300 cruising passengers, we had 50! So everything wonderfully peacefull and unhurried. Several people we met on board were on their second time.

BUT good friends went in November a few years back and hated it! They had fog all the time and couldn't see anything! Plus the boat was packed, mostly by Germans who were dedicatd to getting the comfortable seats and first to the food.

So for us it was absolutely wonderful! But some of that was the empty boat!

One layer of thermals is inadequate.

Thanks for that Kate.  We're not going on the ferry, because we couldn't get the complete package from them.  We're going on a full ship with Fred Olson, sailing from Southampton.  I think it's for two complete weeks with five days in ports.  Did you see the Northern Lights from the ship?

Yes. Just two nights of lights, unfortunately it was not a good year for lights that year. This year is supposed to be good. we got all the package from Hertgruten, including flights to Bergen, overnight in Bergen, transfers..... Everything included.
