Tail bone pain
Post Date: 8/12/12 12:03 pm
I'm 2.5 years postop and 100+pounds lost etc. The fly in my ointment is discomfort from my tail-bone when sitting or driving, and I want to start riding a motorcycle next year! Discomfort turns to pain after 30 minutes sitting. I have a firm cushion with the tail-bone area cut out of it, which helps a bit. I refuse to go down the pain-killer route. Seen a Physio and my GP, only option would be an operation with a poor success rate. Orthopaedic cushions and air cushions are no better than my home made version. Boney knees as well! Especially when sleeping!! Life is such a pain with all this weight loss LOL
I knew about the possibility of this sort of problem before I had the vsg, but that it resolved in the first 18 months to 2 years. Anyone have any ideas or could tell me what works for them? HELP!!

Ouch! I sat down once too often while ski-ing early last year and did something to my ****yx. Spent the next nine months unable to sit without one of those special cushions. So I can sympathise.
But mine was not simply weight loss ( believe me, I still have plenty of padding there!) so it eventually went away.
So no suggestions but lots of sympathy. Hope you either find ways round it or it gets less painful.
Is your cushion a doughnut or a wedge? I found wedges very much better. I went to a specialist shop and they helped me get the correct thickness, angle etc..

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Thanks for the sympathy Kate. Mine's a wedge from Lidl! Far better than any of the ortopaedic ones I tried. May have to try a bespoke air cushion.... Doughnuts are apparently good for relieving pressure at the front rather than the back....just saying!
I posted on the vsg board, and nothing useful from there yet.

Bet your Lidl wedge was cheaper and probably just as good as my specialist one!
Think the extreme discomfort you have is probably more of a man thing! Woman tend to retain more padding on their bums!
