Please don't plan t lose any fixed amount!  There simply is no way of telling. Bandsters do not malabsorb and so there is no reason why we would lose any faster than someone who is following a Weigh****chers programme.

In very general terms, the heavier you are the more quickly the pounds come off but even that is only a generalisation.

The tendency is, as with any diet, to lose more the first week or so and then slow down. Hope for the bandster average of 1 - 2 lbs a week and be pleased if you manage more. The band does nothing whatsoever except limit portion size and delay hunger. And even that doesn't happen until you get restriction and that can take several fills.

You may lose your weight fast but don't set high goals! If you miss them you will just feel like a failure.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

People who have gastric bypass or duodenal switch (much more major surgeries than ours) lose part of their stomach / intestines.  This means that a lot of the food they eat does not get absorbed by the body and just passes straight through.

It is not quite as simple as the example i am about to give because it depends on the type of food they eat but if we bandsters ate 1000 calories of food, our body takes in 1000 calories. A bypass patient might just take in 800 and someone with the DS might take in 500. DS people in particular can eat large amounts and still lose (e.g almost all fats go straight through them).

These are not exact figures so any people with bypass or DS who might read this - it is only to explain the concept, not be precisely accurate! I am sure West would appreciate any info from you!
