My 30 day excercise plan
I used to do a lot of running in my teens, ran at club level and trained nightly. I gave it up for boys, like any good teenager - and thats when I started putting on weight. Anyhow, I've always been slightly envious when people say they go running - not because I love it so much, but because it's been so far out of my reach for such a long time. So now that if I've gotta excercise, I've decided why not address that regret.
So I've downloaded a 30 day plan, which takes you from a total beginner unfit non runner - to a 30 min run in 30 days. I started on Wednesday with 3 sets of 1 in walk 5 mins run, and yesterday was 3 sets of 1 min run 4 min walks. Rest day tomorrow (thank heavens, I ache like buggery), then tomorrow will be 3 X 2 min run 4 mins walk. Its been ok so far - I was nervous the first day, wasn't even sure I would be able to run for a minute, but I did it, and day 2 was easier. A 2 min run will be really pushing me, but I kinda love the challenge. Lets just hope I don't injur my feet/knees/hips in the process!!!

Good for you! Is this like the Couch-to-5k plan people talk about on the main OH board?
I don't really exercise, although i know I should! Not just for weight reasons but for general health! But I am just NOT an exercise person. I am very active but not in a regular structured, exercise way!
Since losing weight i have done the Race for Life a few times ( I power-walk and do it fast enough to overtake slow joggers) but got dispirited as I got slower over the three years. Couldn't understand it ( no difference in preparation as didn't prepare for any of them!) but then realised that when you get to my age, you simply get slower! So the first I ever did (3 years ago) I did in 35 mins, the next was 38 and last year was just over 40 mins! So I stopped! Too dispiriting!
Kate
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
My plan is very similar to the c25k plan - only a lot less harsh. I looked at that plan after I started my first day and thought in comparison it would've had me on my knees. I've just completed day 5 of my plan, and halfway through was wondering why I thought I could do this (!!!), but I successfully completed the task and went home proud and its that feeling that will keep me going back.
For anyone who is even vaguely interested here is a link to the plan
running.about.com/od/getstartedwithrunning/a/quickstartrunni ngguidemonth1.htm
It also has lots of great advice and other links on there.
I can see how the Race for Life would be dispiriting, but from what I can gather you already do lots of walking, and it has to be said, that most of the excercise sites I see really advocate walking and swimming as a form of excercise.
The whole slowing down as we get older - oh my goodness yes - I've been at my current weight many times before, but every time getting back to excercise is harder. Never before would the thought of running for 1 minute fill me with so much fear, I actually really doubted that I would be able to do it - oh the times are a changing. Well off for a bath now, to see if I can salvage my aching muscles.

Ok, so first-THANKS for friending me!! LOL!!
And next-I HAD to come here and tell YOU specifically! I've ordered a treadmill and it will be here THIS Friday! I am going to join you in your exercise!!
Now-I am NOWHERE in as good as shape as you to run. I've got some serious knee and hip deterioration. BUT-I can certainly walk my backside off! LOL!
So-do tell. How are you doing??
I will keep you posted. I think I will even post a pic when it gets here! LOL!
Hugs,

Oooooh Im a bit jealous about the treadmill, I would kill for one right now - I'm not entirely thrilled about jogging in public with my bouncing babes (I don't think my tummy is much better lol)
On monday I did 3 x 3min run 3min walk, it damned near killed me, it came close to me not being able to do it. Tonight is 3 x 4 min run 2 min walk, its hot, I have a headache and I have serious doubts about being able to do it. But I have decided that its on the plan, and I've managed all the other tasks so I'm gonna give it a darned good go.
I've been reading on the website I've been on, that the best thing for relieving running aches is an ice bath - def should never have a hot one. The running has not been painful but I have been achy - so after mons run I did it, I got in freezing cold bath. How on earth anyone puts ice in I don't think I'll ever know. I think I actually stopped breathing for a minute!!! Tonight, I may give it another go (I must be insane)
Oh and btw, I def wanna see those piccies.

VERY impressive you!!
Seriously-I KNOW how much that has to hurt! I also know ALL about the bouncing bits!! LOL! SIGH!!!
I think it is absolutely wonderful that you have kept such determination. I REALLY believe it is that exact attitude that transcends all our fear and pain-it can change us!!
Now-you need to be VERY careful and I know you will be. I don't want you to hurt anything to where you get stuck in pain too long. Be kind to that body of yours!!
And you have REALLY inspired me today/tonight. I came on line just now and was feeling SO down and tired!!! Goodness! I just got hired on permanent at the job I had as a consultant and it is like starting all over again-including the whole "Proving myself and impressing the right people" stuff! Blah!! My shoulders and brain ache! LOL!
But-you have refreshed my crap attitude!! Thanks for that and thanks for not giving up!!
So-let's see what we can do next!!!
I will for sure get some pics-but you must promise NOT to laugh. I will make sure not to include the ones where I fly off the back of the treadmill due to my "grace" issues! LOL!
Gnite!

New jobs are mentally exhausting, I'm not surprised other areas pay the price, it can be so all consuming. The treadmill will be a real boost, hopefully it will help release your mind a little from work stuff.
Well I did my 4 minute runs last night, and amazingly it actually felt a lot easier - how does that work. Rest day today and 5 min runs tomorrow. After last night I think I may actually be able to do this!!!
I'm being very injury conscious, with carrying my still considerable weight, I don't want to end up feeling worse for all this effort. I went and got assessed and fitted for proper running trainers from dedicated running specialist. They have to see how your feet are when you run, so they make you run round the shop to asses you, how embarrassing was that, with all the hardcore runners in there!!! The injury factor is also the only reason I would EVER consider the cold bath torture that I have been enduring, but hey, anything to avoid those aches and pains - so far so good.
