What was the last straw for you?
I turned 50. I distinctly remember turning 40 and vowing I wasn't going to be fat and forty. Well here I am 50, 318 lbs ( and have been for almost 7 years) I'm diabetic, hypertensive. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. I counted my medications and there are 11. The defining moment was that my children are almost grown ( 2 lovely young men 14 and 17) and for the last several years I struggle to find joy amidst my daily pain and limited energy. I want my next fifty years to be filled with joy and comfort and grandbabies and life. My surgery date is the 11th of May. I'm scared but determined. Godspeed. Elizbeth
Hello Elizbeth!!
SO happy to see you here! Welcome!!
What a wonderful and inspirational post you made! You will indeed have an amazing 50 ahead of you. You will find amazing things each day as the weight falls off.
Your boys will get their Mum and get to experience so much more with you! It's worth every scared moment-I promise you that.
I understand the pain you are going through right now. It was only a very short three years ago. Imagine that!
Soon-you will be supporting someone else and telling them how your life changed so quickly and so amazingly!!
Please share as much as you like. We all have something to offer regardless of where we are on this path.
Hugs and CONGRATS!

Hi, Elizabeth;
I'm almost 5 years out, and if I hadn't had the RNY in June, 2005, I would be housebound and in pain. This is the best thing I've ever done for my health.
You're probably going to have a lot of questions so please don't be afraid to ask, either on this forum or on the Main Board. There are a lot of good people who are ready to help and support anyone with questions.
Good luck!

Dear Lynn,
Thanks!!! You are right! Just when I think I understand all of it, new questions pop up! Thank you so, so much for your response and best wishes. My only hurdle now is just that little bit of surgery fear!!(I should be more afraid of not doing anything about my weight!!) You look great and it sounds like it'll be so worth it!!
Hugs!! Elizabeth
