Lap Band/Pregnancy Analogy - Just for Fun
I wrote the following on the Lap Band site - thought maybe it could apply to other WLS surgeries too...
This has maybe been done before, but I got to thinking about the lap-band and the subsequent weight loss process like pregnancy... (I don't mean to exclude fellas - this can be your pregnancy too)
The First Trimester
- You get a small thing put inside you and at first no one would notice the difference.
- panic - what are you going to do with this little thing - everyone says it is precious - every one says you won't regret it... But what if it doesn't work for you???
- Some women "show" quicker than others.
- Some women get sick and some don't
- There's a whole list of foods and activities that are ill advised - booze, caffeine, nicotine, contact sports... some just for the beginning some for the duration...
- You've to supplement your diet...
- you get constipated...
- you need to pee a lot
- Your tired all the time
- You estrogen levels are playing havoc with your mood - will you be done for murder before the month is out - or will you have married your cat?? - nobody knows...
The Second Trimester
- a peaceful time when you are getting bigger by the day - no - for us it is a peaceful time because the restriction is in place and we are getting smaller every day
- you've new found energy
The Third Trimester
- You just can't wait to hit your target - to have a healthy individual to look after and maintain...
- You've got a final push to make...
The beginning of the rest of your life...
- Every one is so proud - their is a party to be had, but you can't get drunk (I mean stuff your face) cause you've got this whole new person to maintain....
Moral of the story - this vessel is going to give birth to the new you - Love and nurture your self like you would your unborn child....
I don't know much about the 2nd and 3rd parts - so please add your comparisons!
I recon that I have given my self a hard time in the past - but that sort of thing just led to more fatness. Guilt about food and failure go hand in hand...
So no more giving my self a hard time. Use the band as a tool - and apply what I learned about conquering cravings when I quit smoking...
At the end of the day if you don't LOVE you then you can't take good care of you...
Glad you liked the analogy :D xxx
And then, of course, if you are like the poor woman in the news today - you push out NINETEEN POUNDS in one go!
