UK / US attitudes

I have been gone from the US for about 8 years now (I cant believe how time flies). It seems like the WLS industry has just really broken out in that time. My sister is a nurse with her masters and has said its like some sort of explosion.

Of course obesity is a growing market (no pun intended there!) and you just know whenever a new market opens there are those who think in dollar signs that wont be far behind figuring out how to capitalize on this.

Its a tough one though. I wouldnt want to see people getting this surgery unless they really needed it but I also dont want to see them create so many hoops that people *****ally do need it wait needlessly or are denied.

For me personally, this is exactly why I dont think it should be a "for profit" industry. "For profit" works great in many areas, most even.... but there are industries that would benefit greatly from being non-profit and be handled best by being funded by us all. This would take the profit goal out of it and help refocus it back on medical need.
