Tell us about you!
Hi I'm Jayne. 37yrs old from Chorley, Lancashire, UK.
I've struggled with my weight from being 6 years old after having my adenoids removed and piling on the pounds! I weighed 9 stone when I was 9!! I come from a heavy family, so there is definitely a fat gene lurking around somewhere...
I have tried every diet club, diet pill, diet book going - several times over - spending thousands of pounds over the years. Each time I drop 3 stone, I put 4 back on, which has gradually stretched my skin on my arms and tummy, which I hate now.
I had a lapband fitted in 2006 and lost 2 stone in 2 months, then the complications started, sickness, pain, port pain, you name it, I had it. After 4 attempts at deflating and inflating, 5 x-rays, one slippage, several adjustments and constant sickness after everything I ate, I called it a day and after 18 months of perserverance I had the band deflated and within 2 months had put all the weight back on and more I'm sure I was just unfortunate though, as I know the band is successful for many others.
I then met my new husband in 2008 and we were married on October 8th 2009 in St Lucia. He adores me as I am and loves my curvy figure, but I've beem miserable about my weight since I met him, so he is being very supportive of my decision to have revision surgery . My 10 year old son loves his cuddly mummy, but he always wishes I had more energy to run around and play football with him, which I am ashamed to say I whimp out of, because I'm out of breath after 5 minutes, lugging this huge frame around!
So after months of research into the RNY procedure and also being fortunate enough to be a manager for BMI Healthcare, I have the advantage of knowing my surgeons, dietician and nurses really well, so I have had inside knowledge and fantastic support to go ahead with the surgery.
My surgeons (yes I get 2 great guys working on me!) are removing my lapband free of charge (they didn't do the lapband op, the Hospital Group did before I worked for BMI) and they are performing laprascopic RNY on Feb 20th at 9am in Blackburn. I feel very luck to be given this second chance and can't wait to join you guys as post op!! Wish me luck. I'll be in hosital for 4 days, so will come back on and update you next week

Hi, Jayne;
Just read your note about having the RNY revision in Feb., and wanted to say that I hope you had a successful operation and that you are now enjoying your new way of living.
I know you will have a lot of success as you really sound motivated. Please keep us all posted on your progress, and don't hesitate to ask questions. That's what we are here for.
Remember: sipsipsip, walkwalkwalk, chewchewchew
Good luck!

Hi there, Paul, 57, married with an 11 year old son.
We live in a small village with a ruined Abbey in Carmarthenshire. The nearest shop is nine miles away and it's very quiet.
Been overweight all my life, diabetic, high blood pressure, hyperlipidaemia and sleep apnoea. I really want to be around to enjoy retirement with my wife, Janice and help Alex to grow and find himself.
So... vsg 21/02/10, still at home at the moment but should be back at work in the next two weeks. Lost 37 lbs so far with a total loss target of 98. My Insulin requirements have dropped from 280 to 110 units a day and I'm not taking any tablets for diabetes at the moment. I was taking Starlix and Metformin before the op.
Making small quantities of food last is a problem, I have always tended to eat very quickly. Last night I ate a meal replacement bar in about five minutes and brought it back up five minutes after that. I'm in the transition phase between soft lumps and normal diet, so will make myself some sort of thick soup tonight. I have been looking forward to a piece of toast with real Welsh salted butter since the op, just ate it and it was such a disappointment! I am trying to take enjoyment from other things rather than food, but it's going to be an uphill struggle.
This year I have taken up life drawing and painting, next year I intend to start fly fishing again. I gave it up when Alex was born. He of course wants me to teach him all I know ( Should take about 30 seconds!). There is something very satisfying about building your own rod and catching a fish with it and a fly that you have tied yourself, then smoking, cooking and eating the fish at the side of the lake or river! I've just finished a course in photography and am toying with the possibility of an Arts or Photography Degree when I retire, purely for fun. I also enjoy archery, pistol shooting, reading, writing poetry and cooking.
I've just bought a book on cooking with almond flour. I am going to start experimenting with cooking with this high protein, low carbohydrate flour, so any tips would be gratefully received. Paul.

Hello Paul and welcome to you!
First-give yourself a break. It takes TIME to relearn how to eat and what to eat. It will be a process. Your body will surely give you all the clues you need on how much and how fast-as you have now experienced. That new body is the boss, isn't it? LOL!
Your hobbies sound WONDERFUL! I love photography and am really just an amateur. I really should take a course at the local school, it would also help me meet folks!
Feel free to start a cooking thread. I can make sure it stays at the top of the message board. There are others who are also trying new things and would like to share recipes and ideas!!!
Look forward to learning more about you and watching you MELT!! :)
Cheers,
T

Hi everyone, a bit about me..
Im Karen from Lanarkshire Scotland, I had WLS -a Lap band fitted 17/4/2010 the best thing iv ever done for ME in my life...cant believe I never done it sooner..
I got to the stage I couldnt breath, walking was so difficult, my joints had so much pain...
I stood in my kitchen 1 night and realised I was killing myself , with food.. so I googled WLS . I saw it cost £7,500 which I didnt have, im divorced and struggle financially, but then something just 'clicked' in my head, if I was dying and was told I could save my life by spending £7,500 I wouldnt hesatate... so I applied for a bank loan, made an appointment with my GP and then told my family...I was told I couldnt have it on the NHS due to their budget, I didnt expect them to anyway, I needed this NOW ,I couldnt wait years for this..my life was passing me by and I chose to take control!!! My family tried to talk me out of it, they were scared of the risks, but I had more risk by not doing it...
I started at 23.4 stone , I lost 11 lb on my pre-surgery liquid diet, which really surprised me since I couldnt stick to to 1 day of a diet before... but I knew I wanted this more than anything... now im down to 20.9 stone. I started my liquid diet 10wks ago today so im over the moon... im en-route to my new life and love every day of it
I searched the web for ages trying to find a support group, I saw an intro about WLS and saw a stunning looking woman, her add was connected to face book, so I private messaged her and she told me of the site in the USA, so I joined, its been a god send for me as my surgeon is crap to be honest, the forum lets me ask friends who are going through the same as me Do's and Dont's..
Then the lovely Kate and Binty saw I was from the UK and recruited me here...
Iv chose not to tell anyone other than my imediate family and close friends about the WLS , maybe I'l change my mind later on but as for now im happy to keep it that way..
I had my 1st fill of 3cc just 3wks post surgery, and was due to have another 3cc last week but I cancelled, I have some probs, Im still eating slider foods, usually WW meals, still really have trouble with chicken or meat. Maybey I need an un-fill but im way too scared for that, i'd rather have this restriction than less as Im not perfect and can cheat, it keeps me on my toes!!
So now my next step is to increase me fitness activity, from zero!!! I'v taken on a 2nd job to pay my WLS so at this stage I dont have much time or energy.. but thats changing
