Hi Ruth!
Thanks for the kind welcome. I've been living in London just about a year, studying as a postgraduate at the LSE. I haven't had too many chances to visit places outside of London, but I absolutely love it here. I'd be lying if I didn't say I had some issues with the food choices at first and the weather (particularly in the winter) was such a bummer but we have had some glorious spring days lately which I have really enjoyed trotting around the city. The history, the museums, the nightlife - just wonderful.
I had my RNY in my hometown of Boston. It's been interesting trying to navigate the grocery stores here and come up with meals and substitutions that are WLS friendly because there isn't as much available that is low/no sugar or lower fat but I've managed just fine.
What has your experience with surgery been? And when you're home in Britain what are your favorite WLS foods, snacks, etc.?
Stephanie

Hi there! I am going the opposite way to you! Not to live but i am going to the Boston area in the Fall (see, learning American already!). A whole lot of bandsters living in the area are arranging a meet while I am there which is great - I have been on the board with many of them for three years!
Some of us meet in london every now and then (I live near Reading). There were four of us to start with, then a few more came along but now it is just two of us again as others have moved from the area. We are all banded but I am sure a RNY would be very welcome!!
Kate
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Hi Kate! Thanks for letting me know about the board - lots of wonderful people to learn from here. How great that you are going to Boston, I am biased but it's a wonderful city! I will be there in Autumn (see I'm learning English English) so let me know when the get together is. As far as I'm concerned we are all in the same boat, we just have slightly different paddles and I'm always eager to get together with people who can relate to what it's like living the post-WLS life.
Thanks again for the 'tip' on the board. Looking forward to getting to know you, and everyone here a bit better.

Hi all, I'm new to the group. An American ex-pat living in London who had RNY just over a year ago. So happy to see a UK group, finally! I look forward to our discussions.
Best,
Stephanie
Hey Stephanie!!
Welcome to the group! It's funny-I saw one of your posts prior and I was going to send you an invite to the group-seeing as though you are in the UK. But the funniest thing happened! Right when I went to hit contact-I saw I had a new "join" request. AND IT WAS YOU! LOL!
I am also an Expat-so you and I will have LOTS to discuss! The UK has been a WONDERFUL place to be and the people here are SO friendly. I love it here. I am also learning to navigate grocery stores and nutrition labels! LOL!
WELCOME!!
Peace,
Therese

Hi Therese,
LOL! Funny how things work! Thanks for the kind welcome. The UK has been great to me - no complaints here and the people are lovely. As long as I can get low fat greek yogurt, tuna, string cheese, and protein powder, I've realised I can survive anywhere - although, on a recent trip to Paris I did enjoy a few bites of a croissant and a spoon of ice cream (don't tell anyone! hehe)
Again, thanks for the welcome. And by the way, you look AMAZING!
