Message in limbo!
Can't answer your Q! But just wanted to say that being a chef and having a weight problem must be HORRENDOUS! Such constant temptation!

Hi Kate,
Yes the temptation is always there, but I maintain that producing food for people's enjoyment & satisfaction gives me a real 'high'. I am very passionate about food and can bore people for hours about it, but it is part of our everyday life whether we like it or not. Even at this stage though I am trying to convert from quantity to quality. That does not mean more expensive, but buying good fresh produce that results in a smaller quantity of extremely tasty dishes.

Are you RNY? Banded? Waiting for surgery?
I have found that (for me, others differ!) the joy of my band is that I eat well! I don't actually diet - I eat whatever anyone round me does, just not much of it. So food is still a major part of my social life and gives me as much pleasure as before. In fact, it gives me more pleasure as I have time to enjoy it and not just shovel it in!

Good luck. It is so dependent on where you live. I have come across qutie a few people banded on the NHS now but the vast majority are, like me, self pay. I was talking to my GP yesterday and he says that in my area, the NHS won't look at it! My band was put in almost 3 years ago and cost me £5500; the same surgeon now charges £8,500! But worth every penny to me. I went with BMI hospital group and they let you pay in instalments!
For me the band has done just what is says on the tin! (How nice to be able to use phrases that will be understood! If I had put that on the US board they would have thought I was mad!). I lost all my excess weight in 15 months without too much difficulty. I went too low and had to put a few pounds back on as I looked really ill! I have been maintaining for about 16 months. My eating habits now are normal! I eat just like those around me. If I came to your restaurant, you might be a bit insulted by the amount of food I left on my plate! But I wouldn't be picky about what I ordered.
If you have any band related Qs, come back to me! I think I am currently the only banded person on this board.
