A LONG weekend upcoming!! Whatcha doing??
Hi all!!
First order of business is to welcome on board our newest members! We are THRILLED to have you here and we NEED your input, experience and support. Remember-it doesn't matter where you are in the process, we all have something to offer here.
So-time off? Will you be enjoying some you time? Some family time? What are your plans? My husband is off work for the term break (I believe we have several teachers who will be doing the same on this board!).
I believe hubby and I are going to paint the kitchen. We have a project and a half on our house. The paint is early "re-fried bean" (LOL!) and the kitchen is an ANGRY red colour! Now-I think beige and red both are lovely if done right in a house where they are blended just right. However-this kitchen is TINY and it looks closed in.
I found a very faint iris/grey/heather type colour and we are going to test it out and get that base stuff applied to the red and then go for it. Wish us luck! I think the lighter shade will really help to cool it off and open it up.
Now that I have bored you to tears-I would LOVE to hear your plans. Are you going to be cooking? How about exercise? Is anyone going to watch the movie Skellig on Sunday night? I am SO sad we are not getting Sky tv until next week and I will miss it!
OK-so tag-you're it!!
Peace,
T

Hi T,
I'll be trawling the shops trying to get some clothes that will not only fit but look decent on my pre-op body. I'm not looking forward to that at all. I start a new job in a weeks time after a few years out looking after babies and re-training. I had hoped my RNY would be done and dusted before returning to work but I can't put off work anymore. I'm still waiting on a date for my psych evaluation, just one more assessment before I get THE DATE.
Will be avoiding cooking of any kind. I am on meal replacement diet so food and I aren't mixing. Started it for vanity reasons really, with the added benefit of being in better shape for the surgery. I need to super quickly fit into some smart clothes I've not worn for a while. You all know how expensive plus-size clothes are.
I also need to tackle my ever growing pile of books yet to be read. Will be heading back into Purple Hibiscus shortly.
Otherwise it's a laid back long weekend at home with the family.

I've not heard of the Cambridge diet for years...my mum used to sell it when I was a teenager, I didn't know it was still around.
Interesting to know it's low carb. I've started slim fast today, just liquids for me for as long as I can to kickstart something in my body and mind. Easter was a nightmare for me - I was like an alcoholic being left alone with open bottles of alcohol, being left alone with all the chocolate in the house. But slimfast isn't low carb and not particularly high protein.
Where do you get the cambridge from?
Thanks, Ruth

Cambridge is very much alive and kicking. I only learnt about it 5 years ago when I did it 'furiously' for 7 months and lost 9 & half stone. Gained that back quickly and with interest. I'm only on it again now because I will have an RNY to rely on for long-term weight management.
I get my packs from a CDC, a cambridge diet counsellor who is licensed to supply. There are quite a few around, even a UK website that will tell you who your nearest CDC is.

Hiya!
I gotta tell you-you are doing VERY well! It sounds to me like you are really focused on what you need to do and why. I think that will make all the difference for you and your success!
Plus size clothing prices are a CRIME. I (as many other folks)have many times thought of designing a clothing line that was ATTRACTIVE and RESONABLE to plus size folks. SIGH!!
Tell me more about the books you are reading. Maybe we need to start a thread called "What are you reading"?
Peaceful weekend to you!

Hi ya T,
My reads are varied. Right now I'm into African literature. I so enjoyed reading Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie that I've worked my way back to her earlier novel, Purple Hibiscus. Both novels are set in Nigeria, the first a historical novel based on the Nigerian civil war (Biafran war) in the 60's. The second based on the life of a young girl whose father is a Catholic religious fanatic, who while generous and respected to the rest of the community is repressive and violent in the home and is quite intolerant of all traditional practices. I am waiting for an Amazon delivery of Chimamanda's latest collection of short stories called 'That thing around your neck' which has stories based on her experiences of life in both Nigeria and USA. Coming with that book, is another collection of short stories by a new Zimbabwean author called Petina Gappah. Her story collection is called An Elegy for Easterly - stories set in Zimbabwe. Can't wait for both books.
I managed to find time to finish reading Purple Hibiscus and with a few free(ish) days left, I want to read 'The Interpretation of Murder' by Jed Rubenfeld next. I picked it up on a train sometime ago. Will be leaving it somewhere public too.
On the plus size clothing front, I managed to find some capsule wardrobe pieces to give me different looks. Sale prices all round so for one used to being robbed blind, the prices were 'good' compared with what I have paid before but nowhere near as cheap as regular size sale prices.

Hello!
Good luck with the painting!! You're iris/grey/heather colour sounds nice!!!
I have been lucky in that I have had the whole week of, and also have next week off (oh the joys of being a teacher! lol!). I have done alot of nothing this week, which isn't good, as next week I'll be like a headless chicken trying to run around getting everything done!! This weekend is going to be relaxing hopefully! We are going to the cinema tomorrow, and then having a quiet night out in our local pub! Sunday will be a quiet day at home, we'll probably go for a walk if the weather is nice, and I'll cook a roast for the family!
I would really like to go somewhere for the day on Monday- maybe I'll speak nicely to my other half!! I have lot's of wedding stuff to do too, I need to start writing invitations, getting addresses in order, and printing mini menus so our guests can pre-select what they want to eat! Our menu is lush and I'm so excited about it! It's not fancy fancy, but the food at the venue is lovely so I'm sure everyone will enjoy it! Our choices are:
Starter: Vegetable soup with a crusty roll OR Melon with a Raspberry Coulis
Main: Roast Turkey with stuffing and pigs in blankets OR Roast Beef
Pudding: Apple pie and custard OR Profiteroles with hot chocolate sauce YUMMY!!!
I'm not sure how I'll eat a 3 course meal, but If I can have a little taste of all 3 courses I'll be happy!!
Anyway, hope you all enjoy your extended weekend!
Vicky
