Topic: 2013. . . any activity in this group??
Hi!
my name is Katie
i have my weight loss surgery scheduled for November . one month from now.
i have taken classes at Kaiser already this summer. i first felt unsure that i had gotten enough information thru the classes, but when i recently met with my surgeon, i realized i had taken in quite a BIT of info.
i am nervous about surgery itself ((ive never had any before this and i dont know what to expect)) but im also excited to get on with my life after surgery and be healthier for my self and my family.
any one out there on this group??

Willow,
What an eventful couple of days! And yes, GAS can make you feel like you are having a heart attack. I am glad that you are better and enjoying the right foods for you!!!

Karen,
Thanks...it wasn't completely uneventful, surgery had to be postponed until Sunday 11/15 because I went into Afib as I went into surgery and went under anesthesia. I came home that Sunday night, was in some discomfort but I'm doing ok for the most part. My PCP told me that this probably happened because my thyroid levels went back up again.
Then at my one month mark, a lovely trip to the hospital because I had pain so bad I couldn't breathe. Yeah, it was GAS. But I'm ok now. Went for my first fill on the 16th and damn that needle scared me but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. So now, I've been fully released to workout and eat chicken, turkey, shrimp, veggies, fruit...yeah!!

Hi all,
I found out yesterday from Dr Suh's office that my lap band surgery was approved. My surgery is scheduled for 11/13. I'm excited and a bit nervous all at the same time. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks,
Willow

Hi Pam,
Welcome to the group. We definitely can provide support - we have all been there and do understand. We all tried many different diets - sometimes they worked, other times they didn't, but for whatever reason (at least myself) I wasn't able to maintain that change in diet. With the surgery you will no longer need to diet, you WILL need to make a lifestyle change and eat healthier and in moderation (which is what the surgery helps you do). Also... as you continue on this site you will be reminded that this is a tool. The surgery will help you physically to lose weight, but it will not work on your head. The emotional eating will remain unless you begin to work at it starting now.
Get yourself in a support group and you may also want to consider seeing a therapist. This is an emotional journey you are about to embark on - BUT the ride is so worth it in the end.
It's great to know you have a good support system at home because that will truly help you in your journey.

Topic: Hi Everyone!
My name is Pam and I live in San Diego. I recently made the decision to look into getting the lap band surgery. I have my very first appointment next month. I'm not really sure what to expect just yet, they mentioned me having to see a dietitian and be evaluated, etc. so I'm sure thats going to take a while before I even get to meet the surgeon.
I'm almost 29, have three beatiful boys and have been married almost 8 years to the best, most supportive husband ever. He's loved me unconditionally from the beginning and is here supporting me no matter what I decide to do. Frankly, he loves me the way I am and just wants me to be happy. He's tried to get me see things in myself that I have a hard time seeing, but it hasn't worked, I'm just not happy with myself anymore. I'm at my heaviest and have tried and tried to lose weight, but it doesn't want to budge and frankly its hard, my legs hurt all the time and so does my back.
Anyways, sorry for rambling. I joined this group to get some support, some understanding of what I'm going to be getting into, I know this is life changing and certainly not a quick fix, but a tool to get me going. So I hope you all will help me on my journey.
Thank you
Pam

Hi all...just joined this forum and I've been submitted by my PCP for Lap Band Surgery this week. Looking to connect with others for support and advice. My PCP tells me that Dr David Suh will be the surgeon I will be referred to for my procedure. After doing a bit of research on this forum, I noticed that almost all of his patients have had the RNY and that is the only surgery he talks about on his site although it says in his profile that he does the lap band as well. Has anyone had lap band surgery with him?

Hi Becca,
I've been with the group for only 2 months so I am a newbie like you!
CONGRATS on losing 141, keeping it off and having a great BMI. I have 2 human kids and 5 4 legged kids. The 4 legged kids are easier, they never ask for money!LOL. I would love to have more tatoos, but my professions frowns on it so I will have to wait a few more years when I retire. But mine are well hidden and only come out for special occasions, like the company Christmas party. Can't wait to meet you too!
