My name is Charline. I am an Army wife and also served in the Army. We have two boys 14 and 11 months old. My husband is currently stationed at Fort Eustis, VA but on orders to PCS in March to Fort Hood, TX. I hope to soon have RNY so make room on the loser's bench for me. :-)

Topic: PCSing to Fort Hood...Need info please!
Is there anyone from or at Fort Hood that can give me any info? I am hoping to have RNY done here in VA before we PCS in March, but want to know if there is a bariatric surgery team at any of the MTFs at Fort Hood. Or will I need to get a referral to a civillian doctor for my follow ups? If not, does the nutrition clinic provide bariatric surgery support for those that have had surgery?
I did find some info on another web site that briefly said there is a bariatric team at Fort Hood, but I'm not sure how old or accurate that information is. I'm just hoping I dont have to start this entire process over again. Joys of military life.

Just curious...were you able to get Tricare to approve your plastic surgery? I am being told here at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center that Tricare never approves because it is elective. However the plastic surgeons here will do it but at a much lower cost than a civillian plastic surgeon. Bariatric surgeon recommended putting it on layaway. LOL

I don't see how it would make us EMFP we don't really require any special upkeep like lapbanders.  I need labs every 3 months, B-12 and thats about it.

HI Heather,

Were you at the Support Group meeting last night (Thurs @ NMCP)? There were a lot of people there that are patients of Dr. Barker. You may also want to post this ? on the Hampton Roads group page too if you havent done so already.

I have my first appointment with Dr. Barker on October 22nd and was wondering if anyone who has had him as their WLS before would like to share their experiences with having him as their doctor. I would really appreciate it!

I am Robin.  I am an Army wife.  Been married 18 yrs with 10 yrs of that him being active duty.  We have two sons, 15 yo and 9 yo.

I am just now starting on the journey towards WLS.  I have my first appt with my surgeon on Fri Oct 1.

I am going to go with RNY, unless the surgeon recommends other.

I am 115-120 lbs overweight with a few co-morb.

I currently live at Ft Hood TX.  Lived in Schweinfurt/Bad Kissingen Germany, Ft Irwin CA, and Ft Bragg NC also.

I am an FRG leader for my husband's company and work part time.

I would like to meet other military spouses who have gone through or will go through gastric bypass.  Would like to share stories, tips, tricks etc.  What is it like having this and then your soldier deploys.  My hubby has deployed 5 times, but multiple field exercises and I have gained weight each time.  Well, I lose in the begining and then gain it back plus some.

Does anyone know if having RnY makes me EFMP?  Hubby just got orders to Korea and I want to go with him.
