I am starting the process of WLS here at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. My first step was seeing my PCM (which I ended up going to someone else because the clinic here is so busy, but he put in the referal). I was approved and am scheduled for the informational meeting on the 7th of March. From there... not quite sure what we do. Took me a bit to decide to do it, but I saw my 30th birthday coming (in 3 days) and booked my PCM appointment. I've been trying to do as much research, prep stuff as I can before next week. I've joined a couple of WLS groups that are specific for my area on facebook and was recommended this site. It took me a bit to find the military spouses forum but I'm glad I did. Any advice of the process at a MTF would be appreciated (my husband works as an enlisted LPN on the inpatient floor).

Yes the surgeon I was referred to is Dr. Wallace who is located in Milwaukee WI and I'm currently in Great Lakes IL. I will have to be on a 6 month Dr. Supervised Diet... Which I've started today! I have the Orientation meeting and Surgeon visit March 5th :o)

Hi! SO does this mean that you are being assigned a provider out of town or in town? Either way the processing should pretty much be the same. Once approved for surgery you will have all of your pre-op appts set-up and just will need to get your transportation in line to get there if its out of town. Hope that helped a little :) I have Tricare-South now, I was on Central for my bypass but had surgey on a MTF free. So I was able to bypass all of tricare's loops but ive heard tons of stories about it

Hey Everyone,
I have been thinking about getting RNY since 2007 and finally went to visit with my Dr for a referral on January 25th 2012. She was on board with me and said that with my BMI of 51, I should have no problem getting approved. I just contacted yesterday via RelayHealth.com regarding how that referral request was going and this is what I got back from her " Your referral has been processed and sent to TRICARE so you will be assigned a provider out in town. Please call TRICARE to discuss the referral and recieve information about the provider. Please let me know if you have questions. Have a wonderful day." So my question is, how long does it usually take to get approved if the "provider is out in town"? By the way I have Tricare Prime North and we live in Great Lakes IL, anyone else from this area...

Topic: TRI-CARE STANDARD- AWESOME!!

One week left until I go in or my Lap band!! woohoo! Tri-care has been amazing! I got a call yesturday from a Tri-care nurse..asking me if I had any questions and concerns about the surgery..what to do and not do, eat and not eat. She said she was going to contact me after surgery to see how it all went. Now that was pretty cool!

It's been difficult for me, my husband is technically "deployed" to the Mexican border, however he does get to come home once a week. I've been overwhelmed and under-motivated while he's been gone. But I realized that the quality of time spent when he did came home was awful! all I did was sleep!! I've been walking and been on all liquids..I already feel like a different, better version of myself.

Now I feel like I have a new lease on life and a second chance.
My journey up until this point with Tricare and approval has been FAST and for the most part smooth. what an awesome experience!!
