Topic: I may have went about this on the wrong message board
I live in Japan and I went to see my PCP or PCM the other day and told him I would like to have WLS. He told me he would have to talk to the referral lady in the clinic. He agrees that I am a candidate for WLS. My BMI is 41.2 and I have weight bearing joint pain and I am seeing him for depression. I am sure my depression is due to my weight problem. Anyways, he comes back into the room and tells me that the referral person said, that they don't referr people out for WLS. The referral person said, that they wouldn't fly me back and forth for follow up appointments. Now I know of a couple of people here that are like six or nine months postop. They are seeing doctors here for their labs and things like that. I was planning to go home for a long visit this summer and talk to a surgeon. I guess my question is, does anyone see away of me getting around my PCP referral and still being able to have Tricare pay for the surgery if I go home on my own. Please help anyone.

Thank you bunches. Luckily, both of the surgeons that did my revision gave me their email and cell phone numbers so I would access to them. They've been really fabulous to me, and I should have known to not get so attached. I think I'll miss my surgical team more than the friends I've made here just because they have taken such amazing care of me through all my complications.

Hey Y'all,

My name is Amy. I am a 33 y/o SAHM to 3 kids and the Air Force spouse. We are currently stationed at Little Rock AFB in Arkansas. This is our second time around at this base. We spent 18 months in Germany but came back because of some medical problems with my oldest child.

I had my RNY on 13 Nov 09 and am down 76 pounds. I am really thankful that I was able to have the surgery. I can't wait to see what else is still to come!!

Be sure you are doing this 100% for YOU. Not only are you your own worst nightmare, but you are your own best friend and biggest supporter!

The biggest thing I learned after my surgery was that the people who swore they would be supportive and encouraging pre-op have had a completely different version of things afterwards. I was very suprised that there was not as much support as I had let myself expect.

Physically though... the amount of liquids protein you have to consume can be much harder than expected! But, I would still do it all over again in a heart beat!!

Good luck!

The nurse practioner where I had my surgery done said that we should always feel free to stay in contact with her and that she will help us get the labs and care that we need with our primary care doctors even after we are done with the required followups through the surgeon in the first year.  I am sure that if you ask your surgeons office they will do the same.  It doesn't solve every issue especially if complications arise but at least you will know that you are still getting everything monitored the way that you should be lab wise and all.

Hello,
My name is Jennifer but everyone calls me JeiJei.
My husband is in the Army,Infantry and we are currently stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY.
I just had my surgery 4 weeks ago tomorrow. I am very excited to start this WLS journey but know that it will be difficult due to all the moving us Military Families have to do. My husband is getting ready for his 3rd deployment and I am very happy to see other military spouse's and family members on here!!!
Wish I would have known it was all in my head to begin with!

Hiya!
I'm Amber. 33 year old Air Force wife with two girls (ages 6 and 13). Currently living in KEntucky whilst the hubs is in Korea, but we'll be moving to Germany sometime in August. Had my surgery almost 4 years ago. Was a nice steady loss until recently. After my first "Real" winter in a while (I lived in AZ for almosy 7 years!) I gained a little and am having difficulty getting it off and getting back on track.  I also miss the military community, as there's no base anywhere near where we live right now.
