Hi,
I was wondering DId you have yours on a Military Base. If so, do you still need the 6 month thingee?
I recentally found out that Womack Army Base in Fort Bragg, has room to take me, Shocker that was for me, did not expect the base to have room for civi's. any suggestions or from experinces with Tricare or the Base would be greatly appreicated.
Thanks Donna

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.  Since my last post, I have went from Duke Medical Center Tricare has informed me that nthey are not in network, so my PCP referred me to the other best in the area, when Tricare did my referral, the Army Hospital  said they had room for me, so I will have to go there, which is ok for me since I had my son there and they are terrific. hopefully they will be for WLS as well.

My questions have changed a little.....

Do I still have to do the 6 Month thing now that I am having to go to the base?
I am 5"3 and weigh 245. I do have several medical issues that are required. Just wondering if the base is harder on getting to the surgery that a regular civi dr.? if you know that is great, if not that is kool to. I appreicate any help or advice anyone can give me.

Oh by the way, how do you get the ticker thingee????
Thanks,
Donna

MTF = Military Treatment Facility (military hospital)

We live in the NW panhandle of Florida between Pensacola and Panama City.

We both had our surgery at Eglin AFB. Have you have blood work done to see if you have any co-morbities? I qualified due to my height/weight, I'm 5'2 and my starting weight with the band was 270. The day of my revision to the sleeve, I weighed 263. Tricare covered both procedures 100%. I had my band with a civilian, and the revision was done at Eglin. High cholesterol is considered a co-morbidity.

Thanks for replying!
I'm not sure if I have any co-morbidities or not.  Both of my parents have high blood pressure and diabetes so it might be in my blood.  I have a appt on the 1st with my pcm so hopefully I will find out then what I have....if any.  I use to have high cholesterol, but not sure if I do anymore.  Is that even considered a co-morbiditie?

I am 5'5 and I weigh 212.5  So I'm pretty close to what your friend was.  What is a MTF?  I hate to ask this but, what state do you and your friend live in?  If you don't wanna answer that question that's fine.  I was just wondering because I might consider having my surgery there.  Where did your friend have her surgery at?

Thanks again for your advice!

Do you not have any co-morbidities? I don't know how tall you are, but I have a friend down here that  has been approved and she is only 5'4 and weighs 210lbs. She is pre-diabetic, but not taking meds with no other co-morbidities.

She's going through an MTF to get the sleeve. There is weight gainer products at GNC, but read the labesl, side effects, and be mindful that it may not work all that well.

Topic: I have to gain 30 pounds...
I talked to the Bariatric Specialist at my surgeons office and she told me that I needed to gain 30 pounds in order for my insurance to approve me.  I am so frustrated because all my life I have been struggling to loose weight and now I have to gain it.  Well, to most of you it probably sounds easy as pie, but it's not.  When I wanna loose I gain and then when I NEED to gain I loose.  What is going on with my body?!  I am eating anything and everything I want and have gained only 6 pounds, but then I turned right around and lost 4.  So that puts me at 212.  Still needing to gain another 28 pounds.  How in the world do I do this?  At the rate I'm going it will be FOREVER before I get to have my surgery.  Is there something I can get from GNC that will help me gain weight.  Like maybe a powder drink or a pill or something?  I mean, what do skinny ppl do when they need to gain weight?  I had an appt with my surgeon on the 31st of this month, but they had to reschedual me for the 7th of April.  I was a little upset, but now I realize that it will just give me more time to gain that extra weight.  So, I'm hopeing to gain 10 pounds in the next two weeks.  Is that unrealistic?

Thanks in Advance,
JoAnna

Find another surgeon NOW!!!!  Tricare will approve you again with no problem.  This guy does not sound like the WLS for you.

Don't worry about that.  They might put you on a low carb pre-op diet.
