Topic: howdy! how is everyone doing?
The creator of this group was gracious enough to put this group together and I have barely visited, so I'm going to make a conscious effort to visit each time I log onto OH.  How is everyone doing these days?

I've finally moved forward in the bariartic assessment process in Ontario and have started having appointments with the bariatric team that will give me final approval and a surgery date.  I'm thinking that surgery will probably (hopefully) be in January 2012.

I went off my wellbutrin in May and I'm doing well.  I did this last year, too and found that I did great until January when I suddenly crashed.  I've been on antidepressants consistenly for years and after last year's successful time off the meds, I'm beginning to think that I may only need them during the winter.  Summer and spring seem okay unmedicated..

if you have a moment, please share an update about how things are going with you!

Ah, sorry to hear about your son's fingers.  I hope they are healing well.  Don't be hard on yourself.  You did react when it became clear that the situation was getting worse and not better.  Mom's are only human, too, and sometimes we have so many things going on that we push something to the back burner in the hopes that it can fix itself.  Take care and be kind to yourself!

Topic: Really need advice!!!!!
Does anyone know what depression meds if any are safe to take while pregnant?  I have a friend that has major depression and just found out she is pregnant.  She hasn't been to the doctor yet, but I was hoping to give her names of meds that other people took while pregnant.

Thanks,

Topic: Mom of the Year Award, NOT
I'm not winning any awards this year.  My son came home from football practice on Wednesday and said he jammed his fingers.  I looked at it and thought yeah it's bruised, but it's probably just jammed.  He went to school and then had a game on Thursday.  Luckily he didn't get to play.  After the game I look at his hand and it's twice as swollen and bruised than the night before.  He was crying because it hurt so badly.  I had made an appointment to have it checked out, but the doctor couldn't get him in until today at noon.  So we ended up taking him to the ER.  And what do you know?  He has three broken fingers!  They did xrays and then put him in a cast..  They referred him to a specialist because they called it a buckle fracture.

When the doctor said they were broken I felt about an inch tall!!!  I didn't want to take him to the ER, I was going to make him wait until his doctor could see him.  What a terrible mom I am!!!!!!!!!!My poor baby has his first broken bones.

Topic: Depressed after visit with surgeon
I had my one year post op visit with my surgeon for my revision.  I am only down 30 pounds, and am actually up 5 pounds from 6 months ago.  The surgeon didn't seem too worried about the weight gain, but I am!!!  That means I now have 30 more to go instead of 25!  It's sooo much harder losing it the second time around!

Looking for words of encouragment and stories of anyone that has done it!

Topic: Abilify and Children
I took my son to Riley Hospital for Children's Psychiatry Department today.  My son is almost 13 and is on the autism spectrum with a diagnosis of PDD/NOS, ADD, Sensory Integration Dysfunction.  He has been on several different medicines such as Prozac, Zoloft, Intuniv, Vyvanse, Klonopin, Trazadone, Concerta, and Straterra.  He suffers with anxiety, ADD, and impulse control.  The hospital is a teaching hospital.  They told me about a study they are doing with Abilify and children.  It is a blind study and lasts appoximately eight weeks.  I would not know if he is getting the actual drug or the placebo.  I am curious if anyone has heard about or knows any children taking Abilify.  They said that if he gets worse during the eight weeks that we could stop the study and they would check to see if he had the placebo or if he was getting the real medication.  My main concern is that he might get worse during the eight weeks and a possible side effect of the medication is weight gain.  He is about 5'6" tall and already weighs 190 pounds.  He is bullied at school because of his size, weight, and learning difficulties.

I take Abilify and have had great luck with it.  It helped stabilize my moods almost immediately.

Any imput or comments would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Glad you were able to pull your inner mom strength out to help him.

Sorry he is in the hospital.

Hope he has a speedy recovery and is home soon.

Have you talked to your psychiatrist or therapist about this?

If not it might not be a bad idea.

Also check out NAMI or DBSA in your area.

They have great support groups.
