Hello Mrs C, Eydie, Lynette, Lauren, and Kerri! I'm so glad so many of you have joined the group! I am looking forward to reading about everyone's journey.

Mrs C.- I am planning on starting a blog to follow my journey also. I think it will really help us stay motivated during our journey!

Eydie - What great luck to have an employer that will cover 100% of the cost! It's almost unbelievable in these days! Congrats!

Lynette - You are having surgery during the beginning of the month like me! I have to admit, While I am super excited, I am also nervous! But you are right, coming to the boards and reading so many success stories is inspiring! It does calm my nerves some.

Lauren - I also believe we can help support each other during this journey! I'll be honest, I don't really have a whole lot of support at home so this is very important to me.

Kerri - For the 2 weeks before my surgery I am on a liquid and soft food diet. However, the last 3 days is strictly clear liquid. During this time I will have chicken broth, diluted apple juice, crystal light, and water. If I want, I could also have sugar free gelatin and sugar free frozen pops. I'm not sure if you're supposed to be on clear liquids or just liquids. It could make a big difference in what you can have. I would call my Dr or Nutritionist to find out for sure.

Hi,
I will have my surgery on March 9, 2011 in Dallas by Dr. Wade Barker.  My surgery is a revision surgery.  I had the Lap Band in January of 2005.  I am 5'2" and my highest weight was 225 and I got down to 162.  I just stopped losing weight due to stretching of my stomach.  I am now at 180.
I am interested in what people are eating the one week before surgery.  My doctor said to have liquids.  Anyone have any good suggestions?
Just excited to get on the road of losing weight before summer gets here.  I hope everyone does well and lets all keep in touch and give good pointers for they find is good.

Good Luck!!
Kerri

Thanks, Cathi, for starting this group. I think we will all be a tremendous help and support for each other since we will virtually be going through the same kinds of things at the same times. My date is March 8. I am going to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. My surgeon is Dr. Lisa Dobruskin.
When I was first considering WLS I was doing a lot of investigating and following leads my lap band friend sent to me. I always knew I did not particularly want the bypass (just don't like that whole bypass/malabsorption idea) and was hesitant about the success I would achieve with the lapband.
Signed up for an informational seminar and that is where I found Dr. Lisa. I had never heard about the sleeve and when she first put up the slide in her presentation I went "Ewww!" But by the time she moved on to the next slide I thought, "Gee, the sleeve makes an awful lot of sense!" A week later I had seen my PCP to run it by him and made my first appt with Dr. Lisa so my DH could learn about it, too. That was the first week in December 2010 and now here we are only a bit over 2 weeks away from my surgery date.
Struggling through my first days of pre-op liquids but I'm sure that will get easier with each passing day. At least it will help prepare me for week 1 post-op!
Look forward to hearing everyone's adventures.

Hi March Sleevers, I am having surgery on March 4th and look forward to starting this journey with you.  I am a little nervous, but the nerves are calmed whenever I come to the OH set.  It has been great to connect with people who understand my struggle and share the desire to make a change.

I hope that we can continue to lean on one another after surgery, especially when the going gets tough.

Thanks Cathi for starting this group.  Best wishes to us all for successful surgeries and speedy recoveries.

Topic: Tofu Shirataki noodles
So today I tried a new food - tofu shirataki noodles. They have per serving: 20 calories, 3g carbs and 1g protein. They are made of tofu and yam flower, and I found them in the tofu section of my local grocery store. Now, I'm not a fan of tofu at all...in fact, I haven't had any tofu dishes that I've liked to date. But I was pretty desperate for some pasta, and at only $2.93 for a bag, I figured I'd experiment.

There's 2 varieties - spaghetti and fettucine. I bought the spaghetti, and it's really more like a ramen noodle than a spaghetti noodle. The pasta comes in a liquid filled bag, so I rinsed them and then followed the instructions on the bag. They are a tiny bit rubbery, but I found that if I took a smaller bite of the pasta, rather than a mouthful, I hardly noticed the texture at all.

I used a bit of basil pesto with my tofu shirataki noodles today, but I think I'll try the fettucine alfredo recipe at hungry-girl.com next time.

I just thought I'd share my new discovery. It's not the exact same as a big bowl of spaghetti, but I tell you, it definitely satisfied my pasta craving today. I'll experiment with some more recipes and post back with my failures and successes later.

Has anyone else tried these? There's also another variety of shirataki noodles out there that are calories free (not made with tofu)...but I've heard they're really gelatinous and nothing like pasta. Anyone tried those?

Hi Everybody!

My name is Eydie, and I'm another lucky March sleever!!  First and foremost, thanks to Cathi for starting this group.  Looks like there are a whole lot of us for the month of March.
Now, a little bit about myself.  I'm 46 years old, and have been married almost 9 years to a wonderful husband.  We do not have any children, just a very spoiled Corgi.  My current job is a very sedentary one, so that only contributes to the continuous weight gain.
I too was a small baby, 6 lbs 6oz.  That was the end of my being small.  I have always been overweight, or obese.  I too first joined Weigh****chers when I was 9 years old.  I think I was too young to comprehend how embarrassing it was at the time.  Needless to say, that began my many years of yo-yo dieting.
I started the process of getting WLS about 15 years ago.  My first PCP wouldn't go for it because he felt it was "investigational".  When I finally got a new PCP, I never worked for a company who's insurance covered bariatric surgery.  Now, FINALLY, I have a great employer that recognizes the need for this type of surgery, and covers it 100%.
When I finally got to this point of having the surgery, my first choice was the Lap Band.  I don't think it was as much for me, but to make my hubby for comfortable with me having ANY kind of surgery.  He's not real big on hospitals or surgery.  After much research, I decided on the VSG.  I couldn't be more happy with my choice.
I'm really looking forward to losing this weight, and being around to make our 50 year wedding anniversary like we promised each other when we got married!

Good luck to everyone!!  We can do this!

Hello Holly!

Breaking away from coffee is a hard one! How long will you be on the liquid diet? I am on a pre-op diet for 11 days and then an all clear liquid diet for 3 days after that.
You know, when I was around 12 years old I had finally decided I was going to ask my family doctor for help with losing weight. To me it was a VERY BIG deal. I came up with this decision on my own and I remember telling my mom very proudly that I was going to ask him for help. When we were at my appt. I was so nervous but I finally asked if there was anything he could recommend to help me lose weight. That jerk just sat there, chuckled, and said "don't eat so much". I was so embarrassed and felt so ashamed. It's something I have never forgotten.

Well, good luck with breaking up with your coffee! It will get easier as the days go by!

Tracy

Hi Autumn!
 It's nice to "meet" you.
I will definitely let you know how everything goes with Dr. Kelly. I am hoping I will be able to post everything I go through, good or bad, on a daily basis. You're lucky to have someone go with you. I think the extra support will be great. If I wasn't staying so long my husband would go with me. I could have also waited until May when my kids were on their college break so one could go with me, but I just didn't want to wait that long. That long of a wait would be torture for someone with anxiety and panic attacks!
I think you can change your dr by doing this:
Go to "My OH" tab at top of page and click on surgeries.
There you should be able to add a new surgery, make it your primary, and possibly delete the other one.
I hope that works!

Take care,
Tracy
