My surgery is 2 days after yours, Tracy, so I know what you mean about time flying. I start my liquid diet Tuesday morning, so tomorrow night will be my last "real" meal for a long, long time. I think I might have steak to make it special!

Are you flying to Tijuana by yourself, or do you have someone to go with you? When are you coming back home?

Topic: RE: Your preop plan
My surgeon told me to do what ever I wanted to lose some weight before surgery. I was not going anywhere once I quit smoking so he then told me 3-4 shakes a day and one meal no more than 9 ozs. between meat and veggies then an apple or fruit at night. I have major water retention issues so I was still yoyoing back and forth but I have started eating induction adkins and I have lost 3 lbs. I am going to do adkins till the 9th then go back to just liquids (no meal) till surgery.

FYI: When I was doing Medical Weight Loss Clinic plan and I got headaches they advised me to have a cup of broth when I got a headache and surprisingly my headaches always went away. They said it was because I was low in sodium and caffeine withdrawel.

Topic: RE: Question of the Week 2/28/11
Question: When it comes to your surgery, what do you look forward to the most and what do you fear the most?

Well, I really look forward to not being a slave to food anymore. I can't wait to feel satisfied with eating just a small amount of food and not constantly feeling hungry.

I fear the pain after surgery the most. I know a lot of people say they didn't feel much pain or that their pain was managed well, but I will be having surgery in Mexico and have read that my surgeon does not use narcotics to manage pain. As long as that approach works, I am all for it, I just worry that the meds they use may not be strong enough.

I also have that fear that I will be the one with the complications! God I pray I don't, but it is always in the back of my head!

Topic: Question of the Week 2/28/11
Hey everyone!
Thought I would post the question a day early because I might be preoccupied during the next 2 days!

Question: When it comes to your surgery, what do you look forward to the most and what do you fear the most?

Topic: Clear Liquid Diet
Ok, this clear liquid diet has given me terrible heartburn. Ugh, I can't drink anything bu****er right now. I didn't have this bad heartburn when I was eating food. I don't know why it is so bad now. All I have drank is broth, vitamin water, regular water, and sugar free popsicles.
It was real bad the first day I started my clear liquid diet, but I took a Zantac because I started 1 day early and I didn't think I could handle it the entire time. Now I still have 2 days left on the diet and don't know if it would be safe to take a Zantac this close to surgery.
With it being Sunday, I don't know anyway to contact my Dr because the office is closed. I could try to call the coordinator but I hate to bother her on her only day off.
Guess, I will just stick with the water and hope it gets better.

If you will be doing a clear liquid diet before surgery you might want to inquire about taking something for heartburn before hand so you are better prepared than me.

Hondo has got to be the smallest town I have ever lived in! I really liked living in San Antonio much better, but my DH dragged us to Hondo because it is closer to his work. It's not bad here, just nothing to do.

Topic: RE: Introductions
Hello Sooz.L,

I don't understand why there is such a dramatic difference in the pre-op diets to be honest. I can understand that people with higher BMI's may need to have a different diet than others, but the differences between just the basic pre-op diet that each doctor requires is crazy. I have read where some have absolutely no diet restrictions whatsoever until the day before surgery, then you have the ones who are on a protein liquid diet only for 4 weeks or more. I feel lucky that my diet is only for 2 weeks!
My Dr Is Jaime Kelly too, but the one in Mexico : )
