You know something Sooz, I was never scared to have the surgery.  I was more afraid of NOT having the surgery.  My health was getting progressively worse every year, and I knew I wouldn't live much longer if I didn't do something.  I had a wonderful surgical team, the hospital was fantastic, and the nursing staff was top notch.  I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Hey Tracy,
Glad to hear you're doing well also.  That gas is NO JOKE!  It's easing up now, and much easier to tolerate.  If I can get to the mushie stage w/o having to sip anymore broth, I will be sooo happy.  Can't bring myself to touch the stuff since the surgery.  Even my sugar-free popsicles were too doggone sweet the first couple of days home.  They're much better now.

Thanks Lauren!  I wish you all the best for your surgery tomorrow.  I'm dusting off a spot on the loser's bench for you right now!

Thanks Kim!  The walking is much easier than the sipping is, trust me.  It took me til yesterday to finally get all of my water in.  The liquids going down have to fight the gas trying to come up, and there's a little bit of pain involved.  Still have some of that going on right now, but not to the same degree.

Topic: RE: Question of the Week 3/7/11
Another great, thought provoking question Tracy!
For the short term, it's getting all of my supplements in.  These things are N-A-S-T-Y!!!  I conquered getting all my water in yesterday, and today it's been a breeze.  But I know what you mean about not being hungry.  I THINK I'm hungry, but when I drink a shake, I can barely finish that bad boy in 30 minutes.  Broth right now if totally out of the question.  The smell of it, even the thought of broth of any kind make my stomach turn.  I took a couple of sips of it in the hospital, and haven't touched any since.
For the long term, I do agree with you that it will be head hunger, and old habits.  The main habit being boredom.  For instance, Saturday night, DH and I were up well past midnight, and all we could think about was food.  In the past, we would have gotten dressed and gone out to Whataburger or Denny's, or something that was open that late.  As time goes by, and I can eat more "normally", I'm sure I'm really gonna have to work at changing those habits.  Right now, I CAN'T do that.

Head hunger!!  That and comfort eating or lack of.  I've been using food to comfort myself forever.  Now I have to learn new coping skills.
