Topic: RE: How are all our post-op March Sleevers??
Hey March Sleevers!
Today is post op day #6 and I am feeling so much better. Yesterday the weather was absolutely beautiful so I got dressed, hair, make up the whole shebang (felt like a woman and not like a patient) and went window shopping and browsing! I didn't buy anything (my husband did! ok it was for me!) but he carried it. I had my abdominal binder on, the hospital gave it to me and OMG it really helps my tummy feel supported.
The hospital also gave me a food journal it really helps me keep track and make my choices to get my fluids and protein in. Yesterday I got 70 grams of protein in!!! I love bariwise hot chocolate 15 grams of protein.
I have been sleeping most of the night in my bed but usually wake up around 4am and need to sit up; so I go downstairs get comfy and start sipping water dozing on and off. I try to get a bottle in before breakfast to hydrate early. I am down 23 lbs since the beginning of my 2 week liquid diet pre op (lost 18 then). I am on full liquids, went home on clear and was told that I can advance to full as tolerated. I have been experiencing discomfort mostly from gas (never trust a fart) but that seems to be improving also.
Each day a little better; a little closer to goal!
Hang in there sleevers!

Topic: RE: Addictions
I thought giving up the caffeine would be very hard for me..My last cup of reg coffee with sweet and low and half and half..was Sat. March 5th! I thought I would get a super duper headache..but lo and behold..I didnt..Felt tired though...
My biggest triggers are carbs and sweets...Ice Cream and I have had a relationship since I was a little girl...Any kind..and if its something I really dont like, Ill find a way to dr it up! We are talking late 50s early 60s....here..
Sugary cereal; (no not cheerios...more like Frosted Flakes)or farina or fried eggs with bacon and toast for breakfast...Went home for lunch...Sandwich.(cold cuts)..whole milk ....pass the candy store across the street from the grammar school.
After school we hit the candy store.all the cheap candy back then!..went home to Hostess cupcakes and whole milk...3pm...Dinner around 6...Macaroni...of some kind a few times a week; Homemade pizza on Fri...Fried veal cutlets or chicken cutlets...Fish rarely...Mashed potatoes...Chicken baked in the oven....Pork chops...etc..Pretty much all fattening stuff
Growing up in an Italian family with a grandmother who lived with you and loved you so much...who was an excellent cook and baker.....made my body doomed from the start..At least when you are a kid back in those days...you didnt always have a seditary life...Played outside..ran around, road bikes, gym at school...later on the dancing helped too...But, once you got past like 16, things started to catch up little by little...until...later on you get married and have to cook for someone else.
Have babies...forget to care about yourself again...Of course, didnt help I married an Italian man who owned pizzerias!! At least my kids learned how to cook...Food food always around you!
But, I could avoid the reg food pretty much if I had a dish of ice cream...or cookies or cake...
Sweets and carbs..my big enemy!!!!
Sorry, sounds like a bio!!! But Im just reviewing my life to myself!!

Wow! Guess you have been busy!! Don't forget...you are still healing so find some time to take it easy, too! But, sounds like things are going well with you and that's great!

Topic: RE: Question of the Week
Hi fellow March sleevers.....I live in Kensington, CT and my surgeon is in New York City at Lenox Hill Hospital which will be about a 2 hour ride depending on traffic . Can't wait till I am a couple weeks out!!!
Topic: RE: got my vitamins a week before my op
I have to admit, I am impressed with the vitamins from Celebrate. I just tried the Calcium PLus chewable Hot Cocoa flavor and it was yummy! To me, they don't stick to my teeth the way others do and they don't have a strange aftertaste. Before my surgery I ordered vitamins elsewhere, but once they are gone I plan on switching to Celebrate.
I think it's great that your employers are so understanding of your upcoming surgery. Many employers would not hire someone in that situation.
Your surgery date will be here before you know it! Take care and try not to worry too much!

Kim,
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. From the 9th thru the 11th I was preparing and travelling home. How is everything going? I hope you had a very uneventful surgery and are recovering well! Keep us posted on your progress!
Congrats!
