Tracy, a trick I used to get in my water for the day is to always have one of those 16.9 bottled waters in my hand.  I try to finish one at least every couple of hours.  By the time I go to bed, I've usually had 5 or so.  I love my water ice cold, so when I get about halfway through with one, I put it back in the fridge and grab a cold one.  Hope that helps!

Hey there!  Our plans sound somewhat similar.

I can eat a whole light & fit yogurt (6oz) MOST of the time...there have been a couple of times where the 6oz doesn't fit and I can only get in about 4oz.

As for creamed soups, I got in almost a full cup a couple of days ago.  Ricotta and/or blended cottage cheese usually has me at 1/2 cup.

I've been drinking my Protein Blitz when I can although not much...and, adding my medical Nectar to whatever I can as well.  My only issue right now is gas (yes, out of THAT end) and a few bouts of diarrhea - if you can even call it that...needless to say, I've stopped the stool softener that was prescribed.

Topic: Amount of food????
Hi Sleevers....I am 6 days out and my surgeons instructions are as follows:

Day 2 - Week 3: Stage II Full Liquids Aim for 3-6 high protein, liquid meals. You will be consuming 4-8 ounce ‘meals’ every 3-4 hours. Sip slowly and STOP when you start feeling full, even if you have not finished your meal.
My full liquids list has greek yogurt  in it.   From the first day I was home I was using the yogurt to take my magnesium and prilosec so I was only having about 1-2 ounces for each meal.  This last 2 days I have been able to eat the whole 6 oz chabani which I have only done once each day which is good for protein but I am wondering if that is too much.  It does however, keep me nice and full for a good 4-5 hours which is helpful in having 3 meals and the rest snacks of broth.  My plan also allows strained soup so I am thinking about trying some creamed soup tonight that is strained but I am a bit hesitant.  I tried looking back and could not find my answers.   I would appreciate it if some vets reply .  I put a call into the nutritionist this morning but have yet to get a call back. Thanks for any helpful reply ahead of time.

My gosh...so sorry to hear about your MOM. I know how it is when your taking care of someone and not well at the same time. Please keep your chin up and know that this can not fail, it can only take time. You lost an amazing amount already in a short time!! Be good to yourself and my best to your MOM!

During this week (3rd week post op) I have felt more hungry than I expected, but I realized it was because I was not getting in my protein or water. I wasn't taking in any protein, other than what I ate in food, which wasn't much protein, and I was only drinking 1 - 2 cups of water a day.

I realized I was eating more than others who had surgery around the same time I had, but it was due to the lack of water and protein intake. I made it a point today to add protien powder to my crystal light drink but still am having a hard time drinking all my water. So far I have had 3 cups and it is almost 8 pm. But that is more water than I was drinking and I have eaten less. So far I had one of those pudding cups and about 1/3 cup of lentils. I ate the lentils too fast, which caused me to overeat and made me sick.

Now I am focusing on drinking at least 2 more cups of water before I even consider eating anything else. I doubt I will be able to eat anything after getting in my drink. I don't see how people are getting in 8 cups of water this early. Maybe I am still eating too much. I mean, I read where people who had surgery months before me are only able to eat 2 - 3 tablespoons of food at a time, but I can eat double that. So hard to get everything figured out! I guess that is one of the downfalls to having surgery in Mexico. You are really on your own once you get home.

Tracy,
I ate some Wendy's chili at 2 weeks out(Wednesday).  I only ate a few tablespoons, and chewed the hell out of it.  It's still sitting in my refrigerator.  When I went for my follow up on Friday, the doc said I could start my soft stuff tomorrow  He said that at 3 weeks out I should be out of the woods of straining the staple lines.

I was soooo tired of just doing the shakes and water/crystal light.  I haven't touched any type of broth since my pre-op diet.  I can't stand the smell or taste of it right now.  I haven't had much of an appetite, and it may be because I really hate all the sweet shakes.  They don't make me gag or anything, just tired of drinking everything.  The doc said only to "eat" when I'm physically hungry, and that's what I've been doing.  Most days I just drink alot of crystal light or caffeine free iced tea with sweet-n-low. Maybe some cream of chicken cup of soup.  I'm hoping that once I move on to soft foods, my appetite will increase.

Hey Sooz, glad everything went well during your surgery, and you're home and recuperating.  I remember how wiped out I felt that first day home, and then the very next day feeling sooo much better.  My first trip to the grocery store wiped me out also.  But now, it's no big deal.  I walk the entire store, even if I don't need to.  It's a nice way to get my exercise in air conditioning.  It's already getting into the 80's temperature-wise here in Texas.
I wish you all the best, and welcome to the loser's bench.

was good today until Dear hubby wanted to go shopping at the local supermarket.  Got half way round and felt dizzy and faint.  Think I might have done too much..
Anyway after a cup of tea and a rest feel better again.  Most pain gone now and it is great to have lost some weight only 7lb to go till I get into the 200's that won't take too long hopefully.
Not really tolerating water so it is cups of tea for me.  I really love tea it is my favourite drink..
Must remember that we have all just had major surgery

Cathy , great idea about last minute things to do! I've been busy all weekend running errands, getting meals planned for my husband and Kiddos! And look, here it is Sunday and I haven't even got my bag packed for the hospital!
