Topic: Question of the Week 4/4/11

Although we are told that no food is off limits forever when you have the VSG, there are many foods that should be avoided, at least during the weight loss stage. With that being said, name your most favorite "bad for you" food that you enjoyed before surgery that you will miss the most during your weight loss phase.

Because this food will likely be a trigger for you if you do eat it, I would like you to list one or more healthy foods or recipes you plan on or have already used during the weight loss phase that will help curb your desire to eat your old favorite.

1. Before surgery, not really.  Never really made the time for it, although I love working out.

2. Not currently working out.  Immediately following surgery I was walking 2 miles 3 times a week.  But that exacerbated my Achilles tendinitis on my left foot/ankle, and it's too painful to walk.

3. I PCP gave me a referral to see a podiatrist on the 8th, and hopefully she'll give me cortisone injections so that I can walk again without being in pain.  I've also got a membership at Curves that I got really cheap through Groupon, and I'm gonna activate that once I see the podiatrist.

Cathi, I bet that would be so good used with my Click Espresso protein powder! I used regular 1% milk with it once but that was just too high in carbs. I'm going to try to find it, though it may be difficult in this little town I live in.

So, if you really love those Frappuccino's from Star Bucks you should check out the Click Espresso Protein Powder. I can't say it is just like the Fraps at Star Bucks, but for what we can have, it is close enough for me! I haven't tried it as an actual shake yet, but I bet it is good.

I guess you can add me to the list of not getting enough liquids and protein in lately.  I started out really strong, but once I moved on to soft foods AND went back to work it came to a screeching halt.  I told myself that starting April 1, I would do everything in my power to turn it around.  I did manage to get all my liquids in both yesterday and today, but the protein is still a little slow.   I had gotten away from the shakes because I'm tired of all the sweet stuff, but it looks like I'm gonna have to add them back to help get me back on protein track.

I bought some Calorie Countdown Chocolate Milk (made by Hood) from the grocery store today. Sooooo yummy! It's got 90 calories, 8g protein and only 5g carbs. Compared to the 13g carbs in regular skim milk, I'm totally psyched!

I'm having the same issues as the rest of us....protein and liquids. I am feeling the effects of not enough liquids so I have made a conscious effort to up my liquids but I seem to be going backwards. Tomorrow I am taking a whole new strategy and I am going to have 64 ounces of liquids put aside including my broths and not go to bed until it is all done. It's that or the hospital within a few days of this 16-20 oz days. That all I keep telling myself.

That's great Cathi!! I had a nsv jsut like that but kind of blew it off. You made me just think of it. I have been using an extender in my car. On thursday when I went to the suregeons in Mt Kisco...my cousin who is also obese went along for the ride. When I picked him up he got in and tried to put the seatbelt on but it would not fit so I took my extender off and put it on his side. I was going to go unbelted. I decided to try it anyway because there seemed to be cops everywhere and I did not want a ticket. I pulled the seatbelt totally out as I useually do and I snapped it right into the other end. I was glad that I could do that so I could wear a seatbelt and just started driving. When I read your post it dawned on me...wow....that's right ....the seatbelt now fits!!! Yay for both of us with the seatbelts and all of us for our weight loss so far!!!

Galeo's Miso Salad Dressings

I love, love, love these salad dressings.
I have tried the Caesar and Ginger Wasabi and both are fabulous!
I must warn you though, there has recently been a lawsuit brought against the company claiming that the nutritional info on the products are greatly understated. The Galeo's company does deny this and from what I understand they plan to fight the claim.
I fell so deeply in love with these flavorful dressings that I am willing to keep using them until the facts are finally proven. Then I may have to reconsider. Until then, I will continue to enjoy them. Besides, I only use 1 tablespoon, so for me it is worth the risk.

You can find info on them at:
