Question of the Week 4/4/11

Although we are told that no food is off limits forever when you have the VSG, there are many foods that should be avoided, at least during the weight loss stage. With that being said, name your most favorite "bad for you" food that you enjoyed before surgery that you will miss the most during your weight loss phase.

Because this food will likely be a trigger for you if you do eat it, I would like you to list one or more healthy foods or recipes you plan on or have already used during the weight loss phase that will help curb your desire to eat your old favorite.

trouble  with me is that I was never an unhealthy eater I just liked volume so Steamed salmon asparagus and steamed new potatoes are just lovely for me and with the summer coming on is just right.
I am really missing salad with a slice of ham and bread and butter.
Pies and a cornish pasty are foods that I probably will not eat along with a sausage roll or two or three these could be trigger foods.  Fish and chips from the chippy delicious with salt and vinegar yum.  Chinese takeaway, Pizza no no no no no, you are my favourites and I will miss you lots but not for now.

I do like a roast dinner which I have had pureed in very small portions in fact that is what I am having tonight.  Roast chicken Roast potato Broccoli, Purple sprouting and chard with sage and onion stuffing and gravy. yum yum yum all  mashed together

I absolutely LOVED sweets! Ice cream, brownies, donuts...I could go on and on. I especially miss Ben & Jerry's ice cream and Krispy Kreme donuts. But I would totally binge on those items...they are definitely trigger foods for me, and I will never have them in my house again.

Whenever I'm wanting something sweet, I head for my SF pudding w/unflavored protein added. That way I feel like I'm eating something bad, but it's actually good for me!

Sweets used to be my weakness, but my bad gall bladder helped get rid of that demon. You can only stand to be in severe pain and vomit all night for so long before you finally don't want what makes you do that. I didn't stop eating sweets completely before surgery but I wasn't "addicted" to sweets like I used to be.
I would have to say that Chinese food is my biggest weakness and what I am missing the most. I just really love all the flavors and the variety you get when you go to a buffet.
Last year when I went on MediFast I learned about a sugar free teriyaki sauce sold at netrition.com. It's actually really good, especially when you haven't tasted Chinese food for a long time. So, to help me stay on track, I will cook a stir fry with shredded cabbage, sliced mushrooms, the SF teriyaki sauce and either shrimp or chicken breast.

Pizza was my life prior to surgery.  There were days when I could eat an entire large pizza from Pizza Hut and/or Papa John's.  Every hour on the hour it seems that Pizza Hut is pimping that new stuffed crust pizza.  As much as I'd love to try it, I will probably stay away from pizza for the first year.  I know that I would never be able to eat a whole pizza again, but I do know for sure that I don't want to start down that road.
Since I've started on solids, everything that I've fixed and that I hoped would be wonderful, are just kinda so-so.  I've lost the taste for most things.  Like Cathi's post before, there's really no joy right now in eating.
