Unflavored Protein + Milk = Winner
I don't know about you guys, but I am seriously over the whole protein drink thing. I just can't stomach them anymore. They're too thick, and the vanilla/chocolate/strawberry thing has gotten old really fast. I've never been overly fond of sweet drinks, and I feel like that's all I've been drinking lately.
So the last time I was in GNC, I picked up a small bag of the GNC brand unflavored protein powder. I'm sure there's better one's out there, but it was the cheapest option for something I wasn't sure I'd like.
I opened it up last night, and tried it. First, I mixed it with some water so that I could see what the true flavor is. It's not great, but not gross either. With water, it tastes kinda wheaty/nutty. So now I know that I can mix it into pretty much anything that would benefit/blend with a wheaty/nutty flavor. And it's not a strong flavor, so I might be able to sneak it into really strong flavored things unnoticed.
I haven't tried it in a lot of things yet...I'll get there. But just now I mixed half a scoop into 8 oz of milk...OMG YUM! It tastes kinda like the milk left over after you eat cereal. I LOVE cereal milk, so this is a major winner for me. So now instead of 8g of protein in my 8oz of milk, I'll get 18.5g (21g of protein per scoop, but only used half a scoop).
Milk goes down easier than water for me (weird, I know), so I'm super excited about this extra boost of protein. I'm going to keep trying out my unflavored protein powder in lots of things, and I'll post those results as well.

I have to admit, I can't stand the taste of water since my surgery. I used to drinks tons of water before surgery but it now makes me gag. I had to start putting crystal light in it just to drink it. I have also started adding the unflavored protein powder with the crystal light because unflavored protein powder with jus****er is nasty for me.I never thought to add it to milk.
Just curious, but did milk tatse sweet to you the first time you drank it after surgery? I am drinking skim milk now, but the first time I drank it after surgery it was 1% and it had a sweet taste to it, I thought it tasted so good! Especially compared to the taste of water.

Tracy,
I'm not sure if I ever really thought about it...but milk does have a slightly sweet taste without being sugar-y. Perhaps that's what's doing the trick.
I don't know what the problem is with water...it's not like the water tastes any different now than before surgery. It's just not satisfying AT ALL. I really do have to kinda force myself to drink it. And crystal light doesn't seem to be making it any better.
I did get some Diet V8 Splash Berry Blend the other day...total YUM! It's only got 10 calories per 8 oz (and just 3 carbs if you're counting those). Plus, it's got plenty of vitamins. Total yummy goodnesss. I've been having 1-2 glasses of that per day.
I've also learned to pour a smaller glass. I used to drink out of huge cups, but now I drink so slowly that the ice melts and the drink gets room temp before I get halfway through it. So now I use small juice glasses for everything.

Cathi, I have to agree with you on the whole protein shake thing. I am sooooo over them, but they are still a necessary evil. I have a whole new tub of the unflavored protein that I use with 1% chocolate milk. I haven't tried it with just plain "white" milk, which I love all by itself. I couple of days at work this week, that's what I had for breakfast. Some ice cold skim milk totally filled me up.
