Your preop plan

Hey all....

Thought it would be interesting to learn about all of our different preop plans...either what your surgeon/program requires of you or what you plan to do on your own.

For me...I start a 1200 cal diet two weeks prior to surgery consisting of 2 protein substitutes (either beverages or bars) per day plus one low-fat, low cal meal (protein, veg, light starch).  I can also have up to 3 "free items" per day (things like raw veggies, skim milk, etc).

Also, exercise for 30 minutes per day!  And, continue to take my vitamins!  And, I just may have to pop on here and have some of you hold me accountable!!

What's your plan look like? Thinking we may be able to share some good ideas!

My diet is for the 2 weeks preceding surgery. It consists of 2 protein shakes, 3-4 hours apart, then a small dinner consisting of 3oz lean meat and a green veggie, both cooked w/o added fat.  If I get hungry, I can have sugar-free popsicles, but no more than 4 a day.  Lots of water, a multivitamin, and exercise.

I really haven't done anything fancy.  I'm using EAS 100% Whey Protein powder in chocolate, and it's not too bad.  It has 23g of protein, and it's really good at keeping the hungries at bay.  Been doing a variety of grilled meats for dinner since it's warmed up quite nicely here in San Antonio.

Well, I was given a One week diet by mistake, I should have received a more strict 2 week diet because of my high BMI. I did the one week diet for 3 days. It consisted of:

Any and all liquids (low calorie and low fat)
Cream soups
Yogurt
Mashed fruits, vegetables, and cereal
Water

While on this diet I felt like it was just too high in calories and carbs and I knew I should be on a more strict diet, so for the following 10 days I am having:

3 Medifast shakes (Comparable to OptiFast)
2 cups 0 fat Greek yogurt
unlimited amounts of broth
Tons of water
and about every 3rd day I have a bowl of cream soup

For the last 3 days I will be on a very strict clear liquid diet.

I will be starting mt clear liquid diet this Friday!

I have to admit it has been real difficult and I feel so hungry, but ut has gotten easier today. This Wednesday I am having a tooth removed, which I think will make my diet even more easy to do.

Sounds like you are certainly on the right track, Tracy!  What kind of Greek yogurt have you been using?  Do you have a preference?

And, love that you have a blog - it's great!  Can you follow a WordPress blog the same way you'd follow a blogger blog?  I am still very new to the world of blogging!

Thanks!

I have only tried 2 kinds of greek yogurt. I tried the Dannon Greek and Fage. The Dannon I tried was strawberry, blueberry, and honey. I liked the honey a lot; so yummy! The other 2 are much better with a little added Splenda in my opinion. The only downside to the Dannon is that the flavored ones were a lot higher in carbs and calories compared to the unflavored Fage.
The Fage is really good with some Splenda added to it. I have read where some people add sf preserves or jelly to it. I might try that sometime, but for now I stick with Splenda.
Both brands are nice and thick, very yummy.

As for the Blog, I really know very little about it myself! I did try it once on a different site a long time ago and for some reason it seemed easier then! So I am no help when it comes to that area.

Hey there..I stared my two week preop diet on Wednesday..It is getting better..but it does kinda suck..but I know what I have to do to get healthy..

3 or 4 protein shakes a day, with SG jello or pudding in between.  I have also been chomping on some veggies and I sometimes use a tittle dap of low fat dressing to dip them in..

Water, water, and MORE water with lots of crystal light flavors!  Unsweet, uncaf, tea..ohh and a palm full of peanuts a day..

Thats is pretty much it..the caff headaches are gone..so that is good, but sometimes I feel like my stomach is coming out..LOL

I am hanging in there though..by the way, glad to have support from fellow sleevers!!  Hope to chat with you all soon

I'm guessing my surgeon is pretty lenient with the pro-op diet compared to most of yours! I've been on a high protein/low carb diet (less than 30g carbs per day). That's it!

My final visit with the surgeon is tomorrow afternoon, and I'm sure he'll give me some more instructions. I'm pretty sure he only requires a liquid diet for a 48 hours before surgery. I'll find out for sure though tomorrow, and I'll report back then. Oh, and I'll get weighed again tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

I don't have a separate blog outside of OH, but I've been blogging daily on my OH blog. That's probably where I'll be updating the most.
