My name is Laura and I am hoping to help get the Katy Krew back up and running.  If anyone wants to be the "leader", please let me know!!  Until then, I will appoint myself...lol.

A little about myself, I am a single mom to two of the best little girls in the world.  Katie, age 7, was born in Kazakhstan.  I adopted her in 2004.  Sarah is 5 and was born in China.  I adopted her in 2007.  I knew I had to be the best mom for them so I had to start taking care of myself.

I had seriously contemplated weight loss surgery for years, but it terrified me.  When the series "Big Medicine" began, it made me decide to just do it.  I went to my initial seminar with Dr. Davis in November 2007.  I did all the required stuff, including a six month diet, and had RNY surgery in September 2008.

My highest recorded weight was 339 lbs (my actual highest ever weight was probably higher).  When I had my pre-op appointment, I weighed 311 lbs.  I now weigh 135 pounds.  I have had no complications associated with my surgery and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!!

Hi Laura

I don't actually live in Katy but used to live in Richmond so I know a bunch of the Katy group. My daughter Miranda still lives in Richmond. I actually live off Westheimer and Dairy-Ashford.

I'm 59 years young, divorced for centuries, and have two adult daughters, two grandbabies and three adopted grandchildren who are actually my niece and nephews.

My highest recorded weight was 327. I got down to 297 before my surgery, and now weigh about 190-200. My lowest weight was 158 and I want to get back down there again.

I spent two years jumping through hoops with my insurance company before being approved. Two weeks before my scheduled surgery, my surgeon and I had a falling out that resulted in him screaming at me in his office, and I decided I did NOT want that man cutting on me. (He is no longer doing WLS - actually he's kind of disappeared.) That's okay, because it led me to finding the fabulous Garth Davis. I just found him on my list of approved doctors on my insurance - this was pre-Big Medicine. I thank my lucky stars that I ended up with him as my surgeon.

I had my RNY on February 21, 2005, the day before my 54th birthday.

I met Dr. John LoMonaco at a Houston OH conference - I think it was in the fall of 2005. In late 2006 I went to him for a consult, and fell in love with Dr. L and his staff. However, my insurance was not interested in covering plastics, and I didn't think I could find a way to pay for it out of pocket.

However, once again the heavens smiled on me. Dr. L's office called and asked if I was interested in being on a new show called Big Medicine. Don't know why I said yes, but I did. They were able to convince my insurance to pay for most of my surgery (partially because I had a huge hernia) and were willing to work out a payment plan for the balance of the surgeries, So, in January of 2007 I had a hernia repair/tummy tuck, and 3 months later they did a buttocks lift.

If you hang out in Dr. L's office long enough, you will get to see me butt nekkid in two episodes of Big Medicine! My teal panties are famously in the opening credits of each episode.

Again, the fates smiled on me and my family. During the time of my surgeries and recouperation, I was living with my daughter MIranda. She had recently lost her job, which was bad financially but great for taking care of me. Dr. L was impressed with her care, and offered her a part-time job. After a few weeks, she went to work for him full time and is now his office manager.

I don't know if I will come to the Katy Krew, as it's now a pretty far drive for me. It kind of depends on where they will meet. I do feel a little out of place at the meetings because I am so much older than most.

That's my story and I"m sticking to it.

Laura, thanks for taking the ball and running with this. With my new job I just dont have time to orgnanize anything any longer but Michelle and I will attend when we can.

I am married with to the best wife in the world, I have an 18 yr old son, a 16 month old daughter, Kadi, and an 18 yr old son Weldon. We currently have 1 on the way, Colton Lance Kimble. This will be the last for us.

I am a Sgt. Investigator with the Internal Affairs Division of the Office Of Inspector General. Love my job.

My heaviest was 425, lowest was around 350, currently around 405. I find it harder and harder to keep this weight off but I know the key is portion control and exercise. I also realize that the surgery was a gift but by no means is it a "magic pill."

Look forward to futer events. Keep me posted Laura.

I would like to help you but you cant fix stupid.

Thanks for doing this Laura! I think you will make a great leader.   I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in the area!

I am 35 years old, married and have 2 children, Justin is 12 and Carisa is 3.  My WLS journey bagan in October 2009 when I went to Dr. Garth's seminar. Before going to the seminar I had thought about WLS for about 3 years.   After contemplating a little longer, I started my 3 month insurance required nutrition classes and after finishing those in March 2010 I got approved for surgery right away.  My surgery is set for April 20th and I will be starting my 2 week liquid prep diet today.  I'm excited and scared too, but I hope everything will go well and I won't suffer from any complications.  I am 5'6" and my highest weight was 335.  I currently sit at 317 and hopefully will loose some more before surgery.  I do not currently suffer from any other health problems, so i am hoping that will help me get through surgery a little easier.

I am so thankful I found Dr. Davis, and so thankful to have found this forum to learn and to share in other people's experiences.  The information I have gathered from this site has truly been a godsend.
