Nice to meet you too!!! Let's do the first day of school thing and introduce ourselves.

Hi, I am Jedaya, I live in NYC, married two years, no children, and i am a food addict.  LOL

I toyed with the idea of weight loss surgery last year but got serious in January of this year.   I attended the seminar in January at Sound Shore Medical Center Bariatric Center in New Rochelle, NY.    I left that seminar as soon as i got home, i completed the questionnaire and made an appointment to meet the surgeon a week later.  Met Dr. Silberstein and we discussed my options, the VSG or the lapband.  I wanted to the Lap-Band and we started the paper work.  A week after that I saw my primary doctor and suggested that I do the VSG, I really didn’t think my insurance was going to approved it.  She told me that she did not see why not.   She wrote a recommendation letter and fax all of her notes to Dr. Silberstein.  I made an appointment with him and we changed from Lap-Band to VSG.

I started my round of test, collecting my weight loss records from Weigh****chers and my primary doctor for the insurance.  They was a little problem with my EKG and Dr. Silberstein send me to a Cardiologist because there was some weird beats of heart.  The cardiologist in turned sent me to get a sleep study because he believed I had Sleep Apnea.  I turns out that I have a mild Sleep Apnea.   Both the Cardiologist and the Sleep specialist also gave me their recommendation that I have the weight loss surgery because he believes that if I lose 10% of my body fat, the Sleep Apnea will go away.

Everything was submitted to the insurance mid April and I got my approval May 4, 2012 and my surgery is scheduled for June 4, 2012.

ok, school work!  My name is Karine!  I am from the city of Toronto, Ontario, in Canada.  I am 34yo, I have been married for 11 years, I have 3 kids (4, 6 and 9).  As per work, I have a home daycare.  My actual weight is 360 pounds.  My BMI is 54.7

I started the process of the surgical procedure quite a time ago.  3 years ago, to be more precise.  I was on the list in my home town (in Canada it is covered by our health system but you have to wait sometimes 2-3 years before it's your turn).  I never got called, and I had to move.  So now I am on the list here too, but I am done with waiting so I am going to self pay my surgery.

I was going for the Lap Band too but then changed my mind.  So now I am going to have my surgery last week of june.  They haven't given me the exact date yet, but it will be last week of june!

The payment to them is on it's way.

I have to do some testing (blood work, chest X-ray, gastrectomy, etc....) and then it will be time.

Now I am looking for an assistant for my daycare, in order to avoid closing.  I do not want to lose my customers as they are great parents and kids!

So this is me!

Hi there my name is Melissa.  I live in New Mexico but am traveling to AZ to get the VSG.  I'm 32 yrs old and married for going on 12 yrs in Aug.  I have one beautiful daughter 11.  Might have more after I reach goal idk I'm conflicted on that one lol. My surgery is June 27th I have been approved by my insurance for a couple of months but it was better for me to schedule when my daughter was out of school.  The waiting has been killing me I would love to just get the actual surgery part over with.  I'm excited yet very scared  I have had surgery before but I'm just scared I want to be here for my daughter and husband.  I decided if I don't do the surgery my health wont get any better.  I have high blood pressure but have gotten that under control with meds ( hope to get off them after surgery).  I'm too young to feel so old!  I tend to sit on the side lines I'm never in any pictures and I'm not happy about that.  I hope to feel better and be able to do more with my family.  I did really bad during my 6months of waiting to see if I was approved for surgery by my insurance and I ate like I was never going to be able to eat again I'm soooo a stress eater.  But Ive got on track and am eating small portions and healthy food and exercising and I started losing again.  I have about 10 more pound I need to get off before surgery,  Nice to meet everyone here feel free to add me on here. :)

Nice to meet everyone above!!! I am 37 years old and live in Texas.  I have been married for 15 years and have one son age 12.  I had lap band in 2007 and am so glad to hear that you all have decided against it.  I lost 60lbs with it, but then in my third year began having lots of reflux issues and ended up having all the water removed.  It is just sitting on my stomach now. No restriction. I have gained all my weight back and now weigh the same amount I did the day of my surgery  in 2007.  I am at 302.  I gave up after all the water was removed from my port, ate due to feeling like a failure and got very depressed.  Last year I finally got fed up and started the proces for WLS revision.  Although determined to have Bypass, after meeting with my physician he showed me the pros and cons and we decided that VSG was better for me.  I wasw approved in March, but had to wait due to vacation time at work.  So, my surgery date is scheduled for June 11th.  I can't wait!!!!! I am so glad to meet you all and so glad Elaine made this group.  I am all about support, so if anyone ever wants to chat, I am mistyrain4726 on yahoo chat.  I have a hard time seeing this website on my phone and rarely get on my VERY SLOW computer, lol!!!!

I'm Sue, from beautiful West Michigan.  59 years old, married, 4 kids,32-37 yrs old and 7 wonderful grandkids.

I started thinking seriously about surgery 5 yrs. ago when I lost my sister to brain cancer. She was also morbidly obese, but didn't have the drive to make a change.  Her size really made it difficult to allow her to help recuperate after surgery to remove the tumor.  I swore I wouldn't go through what she had to....and then gained another 50 lbs.  What have we done to ourselves?

I have surgery one week from today.  Next Saturday I start a liquid diet for just two days. I am still uncertain about the days following the surgery. Things like how to get in the liquids and the protein and wondering if I have what I need in the house when I return from the hospital.  I may only have to stay one night, but maybe two depending on nausea.

Looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress and success stories.
