Topic: RE: Boo!!!! Anybody home? what exercise are we doing these days....
Hey Marti. So happy to see you posting here. I am heading to my Zumba class this morning. I do love it. I will be 53 in March too. Yikes. My kids told me I have to do something about the wrinkles under my eyes. Any ideas? My biggest concern is not gaining any weight through the holidays. I finally got my new glasses and new hair (cut, color, blow dry) yesterday which were long overdue and I am interviewing all over the place. I wish I could blow dry my hair like they do it in the salon. It looks so much better than my normal frizzed out look. I have three interviews scheduled in the next couple of days and two more in the works. First impressions and all that. I always love interviewing (in between hating it) because I have the feeling of I can do this or that or something else. Tonight starts hanukkah so there will be parties every night for eight days and I am entertaining three of those nights. So I am also doing some menu planning, and evenutally food shopping, baking, frying and cooking.. Busy times. Oh I guess I need to buy the kids presents and more presents. They are expecting all kinds of things. Well this morning I just had my morning grapefruit and oatmeal with a tsp of leftover pecan pie mixed in it (yum) and I am meeting a friend for lunch after my zumba class. Have a great day...

Between running and swimming I am limiting zumba to Wednesdays and Saturday mornings ... maybe I should reverse it a bit and switch around some ... after all my calorie meter burns more calories with zumba it seems .... I just like that morning run ... maybe it is because being an old fart pushing another b-day in a couple weeks I just like to know that I can run?

Get this ... I wake up in the mornings and am finding myself having to dangle my feet and get the blood circulating a bit ... then I touch the floor and I feel this kind of sweet hurt funny pain right under my heel ... I get up and drag myself like an old drone for the first few steps ... then I done my sneakers and my jogging gear and hit the pavement and I am all good .. most evenings I run over to LA fitness and swim laps non-stop for an hour in the pool ... stuff makes my lungs feel good ...

Then I come home and fart around with my projects ... I just can't have idle hands ... and I can multitask while talking to fam/painting/sewing or doing whatever plus catching watching/hearing a show or TV or some newsworthy news ... to start the routine all over again ...

I guess I am old fart ... and the best thing that happens for me is to know that I can still keep  the old skeleton moving ... lawd ... I am going on 53 .... as long as I can breathe... and run... and go to the bathroom .. I guess I am okay...

So being Jewish and living in the US is BAD for the weight conscious around this time of year! Sounds seriously good and great fun  - IMO all you can do is have a great time and then go on a diet!!!

Not sure what is happening! Most of it is a surprise. I do know that we are having a major family meal at the St David's Hotel - that is a 5 star hotel in Cardiff and is supposed to be just about the best in Wales! Other than that - i have been told to pack for two nights, to wear some smart but not too dressy clothes and some smart and very dressy clothes! Then we come home after two night and I have a day at home. Something is happening on Wednesday (actual birthday) and then I have to pack again for two nights with smart clothes! It hsa all been very hush-hush!

Yes.  Every night we are getting together with different families for fried latkes (potato pancakes) and sweets and presents.  It's a lot of fun but pretty crazy.  I am having people here at least twice, perhaps more.  This year is particularly wild because it is the first time in forever that my in laws arent having their big (100+ guests) annual party (that I usually cater) because my FIL has been sick this year so there are a few folks that I will host at my house (which is 1/4 of the size of theirs).

We also have a bunch of parties around christmas time too.  I really just want to make it through without gaining any weight at all....  I have been in a serious baking mood lately.  I made pecan pie and cranberry walnut bread and lemon squares and I have to make banana bread soon - I have all the rotten bananas on my kitchen counter and I bought 12 Meyer lemons that have to become a lemon pie or cake or something pretty soon...

Hope you have a wonderful birthday!  What is being planned??

Do you eat nice things for the whole 8 days? If so - oh dear! that will be hard going!!

Thanksgiving, then Hanukah, then Christmas - even if you don't celebrate the last, you are going to be surrounded by chocolates etc. wherever you go! What a season for the weight-conscious!

At least I only have Christmas to contend with most years. A bit different this year as it is my 60th birthday next week and the family are going overboard with various lovely things!

Hi Lauren,

We had a nice time. Went over to my inlaws.  My husbands's sister and brother came in from NYC and NJ with all of their kids.  My SIL is religious so this year she did almost all of the cooking and I only did a bit at their house so it was kosher.   (Usually I cook everything.) It was much easier for me.  They wanted to cook a leg of lamb (unkosher) at my house, but I wasn't involved with that.

There is always drama though. The big one is that the SIL from Cambridge didnt show up at all all weekend.  They just got back from a trip to the Far East so  she claimed it was jet lag. But the truth is that she is still pissed at the other SIL from when they were both pregnant a few years ago..  Ridiculous and sad because now the kids aren't going to get to know their own cousins.  I think that her plan is to move to Hong Kong or Singapore in the next year or so for her work but she hasnt told anyone else in the family that yet.  And the FIL is getting much more frail this year.  So my BIL is completely torn and everyone definately misses their presence.  Oy.

Foodwise I did okay.  I ate a bit too much though.  I was going to take an exercise class this morning but  it's really cold outside.  Excuses.  I just want to maintain my weight through New Years.  Last year I gained 10 pounds and didnt lose it until the summer.  This week with Hanukah will be a major challenge.  Eight crazy nights and days.

I was just amazed that the legs shrunk at different lengths.  I live in Michigan and there is no way I'm wearing short pants, my poor ankles would get to cold!

But your right they were really soft, and darn cute.
