I'm  new to this board, Thanks Kate for mentioning it on Band grad board. No matter the WLS, it all goes back to our heads!

I teeter with 5 pounds here and there, and I know its more about emotional eating with me and that  I have a sugar addiction.  Anyway, am considering  attending an OA meeting. Because no matter what I have an unhealthy relationship with food, and addiction is still addiction reguardless if its alchol or drugs anything that you crave and can control you,it  just has too much power! And in my case its FOOD!

Anyway, any thoughts or feelings are welcomed,

Hi - good to see you here; that makes 4 of us Band Grads now! Hope more will join in!

OA - never tried anything like that but IMO, you have to go with whatever works for you. I think I am "almost" a food addict! Is that possible ? I manage my addiction well for ages but then totally lose control. So does that make me a full-blown addict? Maybe it does!

I'm a Brit and we don't go in for therapy and counselling as much as I think you do in the US but i know lots of people on OH swear by therapy and OA surely falls into the category of therapy?

My view - try it! If it helps, keep going. If it doesn't don't go again!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Welcome. I am a sugar addict too but now it makes me crash hard so it keeps me mostly off of it. I would be interested in how you liked OA. I went years ago but at the time I didn't really want to hear the message.
You are right..this is a head game.

I personally can't stand 12 step programs but I know that for some folks they are extremely helpful.

The thing about food is that that you will always need food to live.  With alcohol and drugs, some people must abstain because their bodies can't handle it at all and it totally effect the rest of their lives.

I prefer a more behavioral approach.  Have you looked into Judith Beck's program?  You should check out her book:   www.amazon.com/Beck-Diet-Solution-Train-Person/dp/0848731735

She is pretty amazing...
