Topic: Back-on-Track class is back!
Hello East Bay Bariatric OH members,

Posting to share the news that I will be leading the next California installment of Bariatric Support Centers International's (BSCI) program called "Back-on-Track."

For those of you not familiar with this program, it is a 6-session course designed to help bariatric patients that have either regained, are stuck at a weight loss plateau or need to lose that pre-op 10% to focus and get those stubborn pounds off.  For many of us, losing weight right after surgery was fairly easy, but lifelong maintenance has been tricky, so this is a super program to set new goals, exchange any "bad" habits that have crept back in and start losing those excess pounds (again).  The group is a supportive environment and you will quickly see, you are not alone in this regain moment (I'm right there with you).  You are not a failure either!

If you would like a copy of the flier with registration form, e-mail me at [email protected] as OH does not let people attached documents to posts.  Complete the registration form at the bottom of the flier and send back to me well before the March 12th deadline.  Class is limited to 12 people.

The schedule is Saturday mornings at the San Leandro Hospital, San Leandro, CA.  Dates are March 27; April 3, 10 and 24; May 1 and 8, 2010.  If you have taken the course before and want a refresher, the price is $75 and bring your books from the previous session.  If this will be your first time attending, the price is $150.  If you are a member of East Bay Bariatric's OH Group Page here, you'll receive a $10 discount.

Let me know if you have any questions.  Should you need this type of program, please take advantage.

Best wishes,

Federricos in Fremont has reasonable sizes. Still big for us, but not enormous. Plus the food is terrific.

I also like China Chilis in Fremont because they use fresh ingredients. I don't order the rice either.

 Hi Alicia,

Apologies for being offline for so long; bad group leader me. =)  If you haven't shared us an update yet, please post one.

Can you attend this Saturday's in-person meeting at the San Leandro Hospital?  I'll be there.

Be well,
Kimberlee

I go to the support group.  It is comforting to me to be with people going through the same experiences.  This months group meeting is on the 19th, from 1:15 - 3:30 at San Leandro Hospital.  I think Kimberlee's father will be facilitating the meeting.  He had his surgery earlier this year and is doing very well.

I have not had a hiccup yet (knock on wood!)  Once I got in the program at Kaiser, I went after the weight loss with a vengeance.  I was frustrated when I reached the required 10% and could not get a surgery date.  I told myself the goal of the surgery is to lose and keep off the weight, so let's keep going!  I lost 20% by my surgery date.  Post surgery, the rest of the excess weight came off easily.  I realize this is the honeymoon period and that my experience may not be typical.

Hiccups will come for me.  But as I've learned from people in our group and from the literature, we can't let hiccups get us down.  We need to be kind to ourselves, try to figure out the obstacles (with help from professionals if necessary), and get back on track.  If you come to group, you'll hear about many hiccups.  Group is great for helping you be nice to yourself, getting you back on track, and celebrating.

Janice

I eat out at least twice a week.  Since I don't mind eating leftovers, the large portion sizes don't bother me.   I take home enough to get me through 1-4 more meals.

I really am glad that a lot of the restaurants now provide nutritional information.  My kids and I watch our intake closely, so it takes us longer now to go through the menu's.  We like horror movies, and sometimes looking at the nutritional information gives us the same kind of giddy terror!  Do you know how many meals have over 2000 calories?  It's an eye opener because a lot of things that seem like they would be low-cal are not.

Most sea food restaurants have something for me.  I'm a sea food nut and am eating a lot more since the surgery.  I love sushi and tolerate the raw fish without any problems.  One of my favorite restaurants is Paradise in Concord with has fusion (French, Vietnamese, Japanese and more).  I have found good foods for me at the Elephant Bar, El Torrito's, Red Lobster, and the Olive Garden.  I love chinese food, which is a bit of a challenge.  I don't order the starch (rice or noodles), just the entree.   Broccoli Beef is often a good dish.

Hello there Janice! Thank you so much for the kind words! I almost feel guilty being so darn EXCITED! I actually did it, I got a date and I must say that I worked pretty darn hard for that date! I still have a few lbs to lose before pre op in a month but I am MOST confident that I will accomplish that. I just need to shake off this funk of all of the negative vibes being flung at me by my family. It made me lose a little control over the weekend and that made me really scared. It made me doubt my "control" ability that I have been working so hard at these last few months. I for sure want this surgery with every fiber in my body! I just hope that these little hiccups I have (overeating) will not be my downfall for a successful journey. It would be nice to hear that a few others went through a few hiccups during their pre op stage. I read all of these wonderful success stories and it seems that the ones who truly make it already conquered their hiccups by now. Do you go to the support groups? When are they? Is San Leandro hospital still open?
