Topic: Group Chat Sessions...Wanna schedule??
One of the features of our group page is a Chat Room. Would you like us to schedule some time for folks to hop in and catch up? Have you used it before? Wondering if this is a tool we should start taking advantage of. If you'd like to schedule one, post a time on the discussion board and see who hops in, maybe even list a topic you'd like to discuss. If there's a time you'd like to schedule one for, let me know and I can forward that time to our members. Best to give at least a 72 hour notice to be safe.
thanks,
Kimberlee

Topic: Varicose Veins...gotta 'em too?
I have several collapsed varicose veins, especially behind my knees, and I'm wondering if you've got them too and if you have heard about any treatment for them.
I'm finally writing about this because I think mine are getting worse, are causing leg twitches at night, lower leg numbness or a dull ache during the day and sometimes tingling in my feet. I'm guess all that is due to circulation and blood flow to my calves and feet not happening because of these veins. I did just get a referral from my PCP to see a specialist, but the earliest appointment I could get is August 6th! eeek.
In the meantime, got any advice? I stretch my legs several times a day and elevate at night, which helps; not sure what else I can do. Have you had any procedures done or any that you know of that work that I can research between now and the August 6th appointment?
Much appreciated,
Kimberlee

Topic: How are you doing?
Hey Gang,
Our discussion board has grown really quiet. With only 150 of us, we should have a lot to talk about, so post way: how's things going, what are you up to, any struggles?
For me: I've gotten hooked on going to my local gym, Bladium, as they have some rocking group classes. My favorite is called "Body Pump." I'm already noticing a difference in my strength and arm definition (you'll see). I have a pesky 2.5 pregnancy pounds to unload and then I can start chipping away at my pre-pregnancy regained weight. All in due time.

Topic: RE: Your favorite East Bay restaurant for Bariatric patients??
I tend to eat pretty simply. I like the Whole Foods in Oakland on Bay Street because they have a huge variety of cooked foods. I can get tiny amounts of food. Lots is organic which is a plus to me. There's a Cafe to eat in or eat outdoors on a nice day.
If you happen to work in downtown Oakland, there's a place call The Rotisserie at the corner of Webster and 19th. They have a breakfast bar, decent salad bar, hot bar with several types of meat and usually a fish dish, as well as tofu. Hot veggies like steamed zucchini, green beans, asparagus in season. Starch for those that care of it. They also have protein toppings if you make a salad, or not. All sold by the pound as is Whole Foods.

Topic: Label Reading Presentation: what did you learn?
Hi Members,
Let's list here what we learned, liked and disliked from the presentation I gave at the April meeting regarding reading labels. Was the comparison eye-opening for you. I'm still blown that one of the frozen entrees (that spinach one) was actually THREE serving sizes! Please share what jumped out for you.
I look forward to your responses. We will repeat a shorter version of label reading at the June meeting. Hoping there to compare yogurt, protein bars, protein drinks, etc.

Here is another study that shows that pre-op weight loss doesn't lead to better weight loss post-operatively:
