Topic: RE: Weekly Question: What foods/drinks do you no longer eat/drink post-op and why?
I no longer drink anything carbonated. The reason is I have read and been told that the carbonation will stretch my pouch. Plus the carbonation leeches calcium, that we all need post-op.

I no longer drink alcohol, although I think I will have my first sip here over the holidays. There are several reasons: Post-ops have a high alcoholism rate. We get drunk then sober real fast. It's very easy for us post-ops to have alcohol poisoning. No thanks.

I no longer eat candy, although I slipped and ate peanut M&M's once. FAIL! The sugar and fat are high and virtually no nutritional value. Plus some Post-ops get dumping. i don't so I can't tell you what that is all about.

I can't really think of anything else I absolutely stay away from. I eat normally. If I want to taste something, I do. I don't deprive myself, but I am fully aware of what I put in my mouth.

Topic: Weekly Question: What foods/drinks do you no longer eat/drink post-op and why?
This is a question mainly aimed at us post-ops, but the pre-ops and those thinking of this surgery sure could benefit from what we all have to say. Please be explicit in your reasons why you no longer eat or drink certain foods. Information is GOOD!

Topic: RE: Chat Room Survey...please reply.
1) Have you used a chat room before and can it be a useful tool for us?
I have used chat rooms before. I think this would be a great thing if the admin would send out emails with links to the chat room along with a reminder.

5) What other topics would you like us to schedule a chat room session for?
-Post-Op Maintenance
-Check in Daily Food Log
-Am I doing it right?

6) For any of these possible chat rooms, what are your preferred dates and times and list which topic you are writing about?
I usually can get online late at night after 10pm.
Or, if I can get to the link at work, anytime during the workday would work.
Nothing real early like before 10am for me though.

7) Would you be interested in moderating a session and, if so, which one(s)?
Yes, post op, daily check in

8) Should these sessions be scheduled weekly, monthly or quarterly? Please state which session you are referring to.
I like a daily check in, an hour a day.
I like a weekly check in, 3 hours a week.
Then a monthly check in, 4 hours a month.

9) Anything else to say about this possible feature?
I wish more people would respond to this.

Topic: Restaurant cards
Some restaurants will let you order from the kids menu if you have this card. In order to get the card, you need to click on My OH. On the left hand side at the bottom I think it says restaurant card. You have to print it out on business card type stock. It also list restaurants that do participate.

Topic: Chat Room Survey...please reply.

As you can see on our Group page here we have a Chat Room feature that I would like us to begin taking advantage of.  My thought is that we would schedule chat times on certain subject matters so that we can continue to provide and receive support throughout the month, not just on the 3rd Saturday when we meet in person.  Below is our survey and I ask you to cut and paste the questions and your answers in a reply post so I can begin to see what interests us and let's get chatting:

1) Have you used a chat room before and can it be a useful tool for us?

2) If you are a man, would you participate in a Men Only session?

3) As a pre-op person, would you participate in a session just for pre-ops similar to our Pre-op & Newbie Q&A at our in-person meeting?

4) If you are a Kaiser patient, would you like a session about getting through or supporting you through the Kaiser process?

5) What other topics would you like us to schedule a chat room session for?

6) For any of these possible chat rooms, what are your preferred dates and times and list which topic you are writing about?

7) Would you be interested in moderating a session and, if so, which one(s)?

8) Should these sessions be scheduled weekly, monthly or quarterly? Please state which session you are referring to.

9) Anything else to say about this possible feature?

Thanks so much for your opinion.

Topic: RE: Weekly Question: What made you have Weight Loss Surgery?
Excellent question, thank you for asking us.

I'm starting to forget all the reasons since it was about 8 years ago that I was making the decision to have WLS and going through the process.  Looking back, what I recall is that basically I was done having food control my life.  It was how I planned my day, what I thought about most, etc., it was at the forefront of my mind more than I wanted it to be.  I also was tired of the aches and pains, that shooting pain in my feet each morning when I would get out of bed; it felt as if my feet were screaming at me.  At that time in my life, I was convinced that if I didn't do something immediate, I would be dead in two years because my body would give out.  I was only 33 at the time and didn't believe I would see 35, amazing and sad.

I had been reading more and more about weight loss surgery and, of course, all the coverage Carnie Wilson received (her surgery was a year before mine and at the same hospital) made me have hope again, that surgery was a way for me to feel better, to live again and to have a real life again.

Topic: RE: November Meeting Topics
I sometimes feel the same way, but then reality kicks in.  I definitely feel thin now and I sometimes think that I don't have to exercise or watch what I eat.  But I think I do all those things just because they've become such a major part of my life.  And the funny thing is, I don't even feel like those things are what I have to do for myself.  They're actually what I look forward to doing day in and day out.  So yes, I absolutely feel normal!

Thanks for bringing this up and for putting out there about the November topic request.  This month really got away from me!   I like your suggested topics, so let's go with it, plus still talk about Thanksgiving and we'll what else surfaces.

Feel free to start posting your weekly question to the group.

Thanks again,
Kimberlee

For those post-op, do you feel like you are thin now and don't have to reaslly pay attention to what you eat or when you excersize?

I have found myself thinking I didn't need to exercise or watch what I ate. I am thin now. Thin people don't do that. I got caught up in being 'normal'. Normal people go out to chili's. The drink at the bar. They eat what they want, when they want, they don't HAVE to excersize. Well I have plateaued.

Have you found yourself stuck in normalcy?
