Topic: RE: Weekly Question: How did your Significant Other help or hurt your journey to health?
I did not have a significant other at the time of surgery. however, I know that some have hurt, but it seems that most connected with our group were helped by their mates so that's wonderful news. I look forward to hearing people's responses and if they may need our support.
My family was surprisingly supportive. That sounds bad to write but I didn't think most would "get it"' of why I was doing something that really wasn't so out in the public eye back in 2000 when I said I was going to have surgery. At the time of my surgery, I switched jobs so while my pre-op co-workers knew, they weren't with me on a daily post-op basis to see my progress. I have kept in touch with many of them since then and they remain upbeat about what I did.
Overall, I guess I am one of the fortunate ones. I only had one friend that struggled with my choice and, alas, she is not a part of my life anymore.

Topic: Introduce yourself...
I am thrilled at how many people have joined our OH Page, many of who have [yet - wink wink] to attend our in-person monthly meeting. Therefore, I thought some introductions by all of you would be wonderful. Let's learn more about each other.
Give a paragraph about yourself with the normal WLS data (type of surgery plus the when, where, how must lost), marital status, where you live (if you feel like sharing), employment, reason for having surgery. No need to share a life story but just enough of a tease to learn more about you.
My blurb:
I had surgery almost 8 years ago on March 6, 2001, at the Alvarado Center in San Diego, CA. I had a RNY lap and lost 158 pounds in about 18 months. I later felt "bullet-proof" and regained about 30 over the last three years. I got married in 2007 (today is our 2nd anniversary). I gave birth to our daughter, Kira, in May 2008 and have since become a stay-at-home mom (something I thought I would NEVER get to be!). Struggling at the moment with not only what I regained pre-pregnancy but I'm schlepping around 17 pregnancy pounds still too so I'm quite annoyed and frustrated to say the least. Feels hypocritical to be the "leader" of our group while I'm basically 50 pounds heavier than I'd like...whaaa whine whine. Bottom line, still pretty rocking to say that I've kept 100+ off my frame for at least 7 years. Amen!
I look forward to reading your intros,
Kimberlee

Topic: RE: Do you have a February meeting topic for us?
D'oh! We just talked about relationships at the January meeting!! It was a good discussion and one that will come up again for sure. Post that question here and see if folks respond this way in the meantime. I do think folks wanted to continue talking about relationships, however, at this meeting so I'll have to check my notes. If my memory is wrong, then let's save it for the March meeting to spread it out a bit.
Gee I hope that "thinking outloud" paragraph above makes sense! =)
Good to see you back on the page,
Kimberlee

Hey Kimberlee,
Would love to see if we can chat a bit about relationships and returning to more intimacy after having been so disabled by weight.
Am feeling fit and frisky, but shy at the same time!!

I really like Dr. Kaufman. I didn't have a consult with Dr. MacNemar, so I don't really know how I like him. He seemed nice and very competent. Good luck.

Topic: Weekly Question: How did your Significant Other help or hurt your journey to health?
When we have weight loss surgery, our lives changed. It is bound to change the lives of those we live with as well. How did your Significant other deal with your weight loss journey to health? Did they help you? Did they hurt you? How did your family react/support you? How about your kids, siblings, co-workers, friends?

Not for this meeting as it's probably too late, but I really need a clothing exchange. I have over 6 boxes of clothes in sizes 22 through 14 and my closet is empty.
