Weekly Question: What foods/drinks do you no longer eat/drink post-op and why?
This is a question mainly aimed at us post-ops, but the pre-ops and those thinking of this surgery sure could benefit from what we all have to say. Please be explicit in your reasons why you no longer eat or drink certain foods. Information is GOOD!

I no longer drink anything carbonated. The reason is I have read and been told that the carbonation will stretch my pouch. Plus the carbonation leeches calcium, that we all need post-op.
I no longer drink alcohol, although I think I will have my first sip here over the holidays. There are several reasons: Post-ops have a high alcoholism rate. We get drunk then sober real fast. It's very easy for us post-ops to have alcohol poisoning. No thanks.
I no longer eat candy, although I slipped and ate peanut M&M's once. FAIL! The sugar and fat are high and virtually no nutritional value. Plus some Post-ops get dumping. i don't so I can't tell you what that is all about.
I can't really think of anything else I absolutely stay away from. I eat normally. If I want to taste something, I do. I don't deprive myself, but I am fully aware of what I put in my mouth.

Me, I'm 21 months post-op and I have completely eliminated carbonated drinks. I drink 1 cup of decaf coffee in the morning and after tha****er, water and more water. I no longer eat anything fried. Although I have eaten KFC or Popeye's chicken after surgery, but only 1 or 1 1/2 chicken meat only, completely taking out the batter & skin. I don't do any of their side dishes because with the chicken meat, I usualy get satisfied. I no longer eat potatoes, especially french fries. I have replaced all of my fattening food attitives with everything fat free. Like fat free salad dressing or fat free mayo.
Before my surgery, I used to snack on candy bars and anything and everything chocolate. I love to bake so when I would bake chocolate chip cookies, I used to down so many. I no longer do that. I still love to bake but now, I bake because I love to bake and all the baked goods, I take with me to work and share with my co-workers.
I also no longer eat ice cream. Before my surgery, every Tuesday, my husband & I would get 2 to 3 scoops of ice cream at Baskin Robins. I no longer do that. I have replaced that snack with either cucumber or some type of fruit.
I no longer eat rice, just because I choose not to and plus, I am so used to not eating rice these days that I don't crave it at all.
