Is there such a thing as Diet A.D.D.?
February 5, 2009 12:13 pm
This is a question I recently stubbled upon when I noticed that in my hot desire to get this pregnancy weight off (she's now 8 months old and this extra 15 is still sitting there), I have jumped from one diet book on my shelf or online to another without really ever starting any of them.  Sort of like "ok, I've read that book, what's next?"  I even have gotten all excited about a certain plan only for it to last perhaps one meal or one day and then I'm thinking about the next plan.  In my defense on one piece of this, all except one says that if you're nursing (I am), you shouldn't do this diet... but I think these plans are just helping me to not try.  Moving on...

On a serious note, I wonder if there is such a thing as "Diet A.D.D" since my thoughts jump from one plan to another faster than I can turn the pages a book.  Then today, I received the latest copy of of Obesity Action Coalition's magazine and there was an article about "Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous."  Similar to AA and OA, it deals with food addictions both for the over- and underweight folks out there.  What really spiked my curiosity was a sidebar to the article titled "The 20 Questions: Are you a food addict?"  (If you say "yes" to any of those questions, you might have a food addiction.)  I didn't count how many times I said "yes," but a big lightbulb went off over my head in that a good amount of those questions seemed to relate to my question of Diet A.D.D.

Let me know if you've ever attended one of their meetings, as I'm totally curious as I wonder if their message could help our group from time-to-time as such food addiction-themed issues surface for us.  There actually is one a block from my home that meets on a weekday morning (don't know if I can bring the baby, doubtful), so we'll see if I get the guts enough to check it out.  Their 12 steps have too much God referenced in them so I'm not sure how comfortable I would be going in there as a non-Christian to a church setting no less.  Blah blah...am I already talking myself out of it, thinking of the next plan of action?  busted!!

Let me know what you know.  For quicker reference for you, I added their webpage to our Links page.  Check it out.

In Peace,

Hi East Bay Bariatric's OH Members,

Congrats to us!  Our group on ObesityHelp has grown to over 60 members!  We are a Top 10 group for California.  All thanks to you!

Please invite your friends to join our group as well so we grow and our activity on the site expands.  This site is only helpful if we are active on it.

All my best,

Kimberlee MacVicar

Thank you for attending the OH...

It was fun seeing many of you at the conference.  I was told beforehand that 10 of us had registered - WOO HOO - so we should be receiving about 50 samples of something from ObesityHelp that I will bring to meetings once received.

I hope you got out of the conference as much as I did.  I was only underwhelmed by one speaker (he rambled and was too preachy for me, but maybe that's because he was the first speaker after lunch...dunno).  I was glad to see such a large collection of vendors too - I hope you were able to support them - and the food was great and bariatric style.

I think the main thing I walk away from is what Dr. Feng said in his presentation (not an exact quote), "do you need a revision surgery or do you need to revise your eating plan?"  Hmmmm.  He stated that he has had several people come to his office claiming they needed a revision surgery because their "tool" wasn't working anymore.  He ran tests, everything seemed great and in working order, he asked what they ate (not the best options of course that they admitted to), and after he got them to revise their meal plan and eating habits, voila, the "tool" was working again and the pounds started coming off.

Thank you to everyone that has joined our newly formed OH Group.  I am delighted to announce that we have hit the 50 member mark!! woo hoo to us.  Did you know that we are a Top 10 Group for California!!  Ranked #6 in the state for size as of this writing.

Let's keep growing in size, strength and activity.  The more involved we become with our page, the more meaningful, and well supportive, it will be to us all...something like that. =)

Be sure to send an invitation to your OH Friends to join our Group too.  Why not!?

Cheers and thanks for joining,
Kimberlee

Coming Soon to our Discussion...
October 20, 2008 2:50 pm
I hope you enjoyed the October meeting as much as I did.  As always, it was wonderful and inspiring to be with you.  I want announce a new weekly feature to our Discussion Board:

A Question of the Week!

Our member, Veronica, will be posting a weekly question so be sure to log in and add your answer.  Use the one I currently have on the board for practice, if you will; the question asking "What are your Success Habits?"  These open questions from Veronica will give us another avenue to learn about and from each other.

I look forward to this new support tool for us.  Thanks Veronica for volunteering!!  Members: if you have a question you'd like included in the mix, drop Veronica a line.

Cheers,
Kimberlee
