Topic: More on Emotional Eating - Retrain Yourself to Think Positive

A key element of changing your attitude is changing your self-talk, or internal monologue. Your self-talk is that chattering conversation you have with yourself all day long, whether you are aware of it or not. It's the voice in your head that says, "I'm too fat" or "I'm not good enough." I don't need to go on, do I? You know what I'm talking about!

It's this kind of useless negativity that keeps you from being the best that you can be. Well, it's time to turn it around once and for all. You need to retrain yourself to think positive!

Imagine what would happen if you changed the dialogue so that it sounded more like this: "I can lose weight and be healthy, exercise to the best of my ability, and get stronger and better at it every time I do it." Your self-talk can make the difference between happiness and despair, success and failure. I can promise you that if you start making your self-talk more positive and affirming and less defeatist and self-depreciating your whole life will change for the better.

Rewrite Your Thoughts
Now that you know how important it is to have the right attitude in order to reach your goals, pull out your journal. Review what you wrote last week. Doesn't it feel good to read the positive thoughts? Don't you just cringe when you read the negative ones? Start retraining yourself. Change all the negative thoughts to positive ones. For example, take "I feel so gross when I eat the whole bag of chips" and turn it into "When I eat healthy, I feel great. And when I feel great, I look great." Hang in there — before you know it, you'll be able to "rewrite" negative thoughts in your mind.

I know most support groups meet at night during the week, that is why I liked yours.  You both are so well prepared AND it met my work schedule.  Please make sure to let me know if you reinstate the Sunday meetings.

But I understand.  C'est la vie.

I just had lapband May 5.  The recovery has been really pretty easy, and I am so glad I had it done.

A little blurb from Jillian Michaels and the Biggest Loser

I don't care if you were the fat kid in high school, or the black sheep of the family, or the lazy teenager who hated exercise. Forget it — let it all go! Those old identities are not serving you in the present, and they certainly aren't going to help you achieve your goals for the future. If you let go of old conceptions of yourself, you can maintain an open mind and be open to all possibilities. It is imperative that you let go of the past in order to re-create yourself in the present.

No.  Getting a professional, in this case a doctor, to work on a Sunday is impossible.

We also talked about this at the meeting this past Sunday.  Due to summer vacations and family commitments, we've suspended the Sunday meetings at least through the summer months.  We will instead be meeting on Wednesday evenings (most all support groups meet during the week).  If in the fall we have great demand for a Sunday meeting, we will consider reinstating.

Friends, mark your calendars now!

In June we will meet on Wednesday the 17th.  The meeting will begin at 6:30pm and will be held at my home in Mansfield.

I'm very excited to announce that Dr. Jane Counts will be our featured speaker.  She will be discussing relationships afer WLS

Please plan to attend and bring anyone who might be interested.  Guests are more than welcome.  I'd like to see us pack the house so that she will be enticed to come back at some other time.

(Pleaes RSVP no later than the day prior so that I can ensure we have ample seating. Thanks!)

What date was it decided on for June's meeting?  And where will it be?  Want to make sure I get it on my calendar (if it does not interfere with a Rangers game...  LOL).  We sure missed being there this month.

Topic: May 2009 Meeting

In our April meetings we learned a great deal about ourselves, how to identify emotional triggers and how we allow eating to be a response to those stressors.  This month we will continue with the topic of Emotional Eating and discuss how we can overcome emotional eating and replace it with better/healthier habits while reducing stress.

These meetings are for all surgery types, all genders, post-op, pre-op, those interested in learning more and those that support us on our journey!
