Revisional surgery
Hi - I moved to Florida 2 years ago, and had gastric bypass surgery about 5 years ago. I initially lost 124 lbs, but have regained about 20 of those pounds. I seem to be at a plateau and can't lose anymore so I am considering revisional surgery. Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated. I was in a support grouip in NY, but I was told by Indian River Medical
Center that I could not join there group because space was limited to patients who had had their surgery there. Thanks

Wow I can't believe they would turn someone away. I feel your pain in gaining weight back and having trouble getting the weight back off. I don't know much about gastric bypass, but I've heard that people have had the revision done to help them finish losing the weight. Have you established a doctor in the area? There is a support group at the Sebastian River Medical Center that would be a lot closer for you to go to They hold their meetings on the 4th Tuesday at 6:00. But you are more than welcome to come to our meetings which is are held on the 4th Wednesdays at the Palm Bay Community Hospital in the private dinning room in the cafeteria at 5:30.
I would talk to a local doctor first and maybe take a look at your daily food intake and see if there is something that needs to be changed. Do you exercise? perhaps you need to change up your exercise routine or increase it, to get you metabolisim burning again. I hope this helps please at anytime if you have a question or just need to talk to someone please contact me.
Let me know what you decide to do.

Hi Jill - thanks so much for your quick reply and your help. I have not found a doctor in the area yet as I lost my medical insurance when I moved here . I would be paying cash for the surgery. I was astonished too that Indian River would have that criteria for attending a support group. I was not aware of the one in Sebastian, but I will check into it. I do some exercising, go to Curves 3x a week, and eat very little. Frustrating! Thanks again for your help.

Hi Donna & Jill,
I'm the newbie who just joined your group yesterday. I had Gastric Bypass Surgery in December of 2003 and lost 116 lbs. of which I have just recently put 20 lbs on. I have been doing great maintaining, but can relate to your weight gain, Donna. First thing I did was find a support group and I will be at the meeting next Wednesday. 08/24/2011 at Palm Bay Hospital.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and being an active member. Hang in there Donna, you are not alone. There has to be a reason for the weight gain for both of us. I'm going to investigate a little to find out if this weight gain is normal.
Hope to see you both on Wednesday,
Regards,
JoAnn aka Snojo
