The Loser's Bench

Two years ago today I took a leap of faith and launched on the journey of a lifetime. I knew that my life would change forever, but I didn't really know what to expect. I hoped that my health issues would resolve. I hoped that my quality of life would improve. I hoped that I would shed the unattractive shield I had carried for so many years. All of these things have happened to me and for me. I didn't really understand the depth of the emotional journey I was embarking on. I didn't really understand that the hardest work was not getting the weight off, but learning to live lean in the long term. I didn't really understand how much I'd have to forgive myself for the trespasses I've committed against myself. I now know that this is an unending journey with a specific destination. This is a journey of personal and physical transformation.
I have mentioned before that for me the year before the surgery was about recognizing that I needed to make significant changes to care for myself. In the year following surgery my journey was focused on losing the excess weight and marveling at the new 'scenery'. For me the second year was much more about recognizing that I will never be 'normal' and I will always have to actively 'manage' my weight. I wonder what the journey will be in my third year post WLS.

Well, I am sitting in my hotel room waiting for the van to pick me to take me to the hospital - surgery day is tomorrow.
Can't say I am that nervous at the moment but I am sure once I get to the hospital, meet the team that will be taking care of me, have my tests, etc. my nerves will kick in a panic will ensue.
I pray that things go according to plan and I look forward to someone scooching over for me on the loser's bench!

I saw this on the RNY board and think it would apply to just about anyone, so here's a link that to a thread I think you will find very interesting:

Hi Jordan,
Like you, I started working on my journey before my surgery and lost about 30 lbs before surgery.
Remember to count all of the pounds you lose... before and after surgery because you are working hard to lose each pound.
Keep up the good work!

You might try cross posting this to the main, RNY and insurance forums... You may find someone there that has personal experience with NC Medicaid.
Wishing you all the best,

Anyways, First you see the nurse and she asks you questions, tells you about medications and checks your weight again. LUCKILY, I lost 5 pounds YEAA!!
Also, she gives you a free tote bag with vitamin samples, a bmi chart, special magazine offers and alot of other nice surgery material. Menus, Protein Options etc. It was a really nice gift for the upcoming event.
Then after that I spoke with Dr. Enochs he again went through all the ups and downs and ifs, ands, or buts of surgery and told me I was clear and ready to go.
Everything went well
Now off to insurance approval. Prayers are needed.
How have your experiences been with his office?>
All thoughts and stories welcome.
Thanks so much!
