I hope you will join me as we work through Dr. Judith Beck's book and workbook called the 'Beck Diet Solution.
Dr. Judith Beck has written some books on learning to 'Think Thin.' Her book and accompanying workbook, the Beck Diet Solution are a '6 week' program to help people learn to 'think thin.' I want to address a different topic each time we meet. While it is not necessary to purchase her books to participate, I'm sure it would help. You can find the books on Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com or Borders.com and can often get used copies at a very reasonable price. You'll also need to get a journal and some 3x5 cards.
We will have 'homework associated with each meeting. For the upcoming meeting, the topic will be "What to do when you stumble." ... We all make mistakes and stumble, but it is how we manage those mistakes that may be the most telling about how successful our journey is at any given point in time. We all have been there before; we've made a mistake or choice that isn't supportive of our goal and we decide that since we've already done the damage, we might as well... you can finish the sentence. It's important that we recognize our mistakes, but that we do not let them undo all that we have done and have yet to do. So, the discussion for this meeting will be recognizing when we've made a mistake and learning to start over in the most constructive manner. Please think about how you manage it when you 'stub your toe', any techiques you've learned that you know do or don't work, and let's talk about what they are and ways we can learn to constructively start over. If you have a copy of the Beck Workbook, you'll find some information on this topic on page 112.
I look forward to our next meeting and to learning so new ways to constructively pick myself up and keep going on this incredible journey. I hope you will join us.
If you'd like to join us please RSVP at www.meetup.com/nc-wls for the meeting tomorrow evening in Brier Creek.

I think it might help us and those who follow to list our biggest challenges and how we have coped with them. So please share
Where you are in your journey
Your biggest challenge(s)
Coping mechanisms for the challenge(s)
I'm 2 years, 3 months post op.
My biggest challenge is coping with stress and not using food to do it.
If find that when I make myself accountable, I take better care of myself. For me, this means logging my intake and weighing on a daily basis.

If you want to attend the upcoming event in Atlanta November 6/7, 2009, I just got an event code that you can use to get your event tickets for Atlanta at a significantly reduced rate. When you get them, if you use the following code: Cumbo09, you'll get a significant discount. The first 25 people to use this code will get their tickets for $20.00 which is the lowest cost available, instead of the normal $50.00, so run, don't walk and use the code to get your reduced price ticket!
I'm glad to share this with anyone who wants to go, but I can't put it on any of the public forums, so I've posted it here on the the Loser's Bench discussion board.
I'm looking forward to it and to seeing a bunch of you there!Barbara

Hi Kathy,
It looks like your message posted just fine :-)
Your profile sounds a lot like my own. We have 27 year old twin sons that have been out on their own for a while. We also have a teenage daughter. I decided to have my own RNY because I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I decided that after 30+ years of battling my weight, that WLS of some type likely the only way I'd get the weight off and hopefully resolve the diabetes. Thank goodness all worked out. I lost the weight, the diabetes is resolved and my hemochromatosis is managed by the malabsorption that helps to keep my iron levels in check. I just had my labs done and my iron levels are great, myHbA1C is 5.4, my cholesterol is under control, my blood pressure is running about 100/60 w/out meds... Hopefully, you'll reap similar benefits with your own journey.
It takes a while to be able to get all of the protien in and I think most of the Dr's recognize that. My husband really like the IsoPure protien drinks because they weren't as 'viscous' as many of the shakes. He often nursed them all day long.
If you need anything, please post and feel free to send me a PM. I'll do my best to respond.
Wishing you all the best,
Barbara

I am from Fayetteville. I am married to a wonderful man who is very supportive. I also have an older son (out on his own) and a teenage daughter. We have a dog and a cat.
I wanted this surgery due to the fact I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes over a year ago. I have managed to keep it in check through diet, but it has been getting harder. Also, I take meds for high blood pressure and high cholestral. I truly hope these issues will be resolved.
Thanks for allowing us a place to learn.
Apparently we have too much of a good thing going and our group is so large that the system can't handle any PM's to the group. I can't even select a subset to PM, so unfortunately all communication has to be through the discussion board, so I hope you'll check in from time to time. As soon as they are able to resolve the PM issues, I'll let you know.
If you need or want reach me, you can still PM me.
