I want to be my own personal hero.
I want to be healthy.
I want to live every day knowing that I finally put myself first and did something for me.
I don't want to be afraid of getting on a plane and not fitting in the seatbelt.
I want to go to amusement parks and not be afraid to get in line.
I don't want to go to the store and buy something and make excuses to the people around me like I'm doing something wrong.
I DON'T WANT TO LIE TO MYSELF ANYMORE.

Topic: Let's get moving together!

Hi All,

As many of you know, I lead a virtual and an in person support group in Raleigh NC. I'd really like to find some ways for us to have some activities that would allow us to socialize, get active and maybe even do something good for someone else at the same time. With this in mind, I'm looking into seeing if anyone might be interested in participating in local charitable walks. The ones that come to mind right now,

WalkLikeMadd in Raleigh March 09

Special Olympics in Raleigh or Chapel Hill/Spring 09

These are just two that I found in the area. Soooo... Would you be interested? Do you know of other walks that we might participate in?

Overall, what do you think?

I am doing this because:

I want to live a longer and healthier lifestyle with my husband and kids

I want to provide a good, healthy example for my four beautiful kids

I want to feel better so I can play sports with my kids and feel better about myself and appearance.

I love feeling so much healthier, stronger, younger and not so worn down.

I don't hurt all the time anymore and I dont want to be a couch potato I like being active.

I can fit into clothes that I used to when I was in highschool

Hi Jenn,

I think that you have come a LONG way and the changes that I see in you physically and otherwise are truly amazing. I don't know if you are aware of the incredible impact your success to date has made on others... It has helped them know that they too can 'climb that mountain.' So, thanks for the inspiration you provide.

Wishing you continued success as you work towards attaining the goals you have laid out for yourself.

All the best,

Hey Ladybug,

Thanks for your reply. I have found that my list has been really helpful to me as I have needed to make hard decisions or when I have struggled. It helps to put those decisions and struggles into perspective.

I wish you all the best,

I'm doing this because:

I want my life back. Prior to WLS was the equivalent of Dead because I had no quality of life

I have something worth living for - husband and family

I have to shed my protective wall that I used to keep people away from me (my weight) and not be afraid anymore

I want to be able to look into the mirror for the first time and not have the first thing that comes to my mouth being "Gross".

I want to be someone I can be proud of

I want to finally, successfully, fully accomplish something I set out to do all the way through

I want to go anywhere and not be afraid of people pointing and staring

I want to sit in a regular stadium seat at hockey games

I want to shop with my daughter and family in the same stores they do

There are so many reasons....but I'll try to post a few to look back on...

I want to easily fit in airline seats...through turnstiles, etc.

I love to travel, and I no longer want to be the one person in the group having trouble getting up the hills, etc...

I want to get out in the world and try things that I was never able to do physically or that I was afraid to try.

No more yo-yo diets that make you feel awful when you gain more weight back.

I want to improve my self-esteem and confidence.

I want to be treated fairly and seen as a confident, intelligent person rather than being prejudged before people meet me.

I no longer want to be the heavy sister and have people say, "You two look nothing alike...I never would have known you were sisters."

I want to buy clothes that I actually like and are easy to find, rather than searching all over for expensive clothes that are not flattering to overweight people.

And I want to break my dependence on food as "comfort"...

I want to start living and quit hiding...

By the way, thanks for this post...it is awfully empowering to get some of these things out...I will definitely keep these so I can keep myself on track...

"For He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways." Psalms 91:11

Hi Carrie,

I love your list. I can see and hear myself in soooo many of the things you have on your list. I'm sure that they too are on my own.

Wishing you continued success,
