Hi Robin,

I'm delighted to hear that everything went so well with your surgery and recovery. It sounds like you are doing all that you can to continue the successes you have already logged with your presurgery weight loss. Keep moving and keep sipping... A year from now you will be a new woman.

Wishing you continued success,

Topic: I am grateful...

I wanted to share my list of things I am grateful for today...

I am grateful to have my health; my type 2 diabetes is resolved and my hemochromatosis is well managed thanks to my RNY.

I am grateful to have the love and support of my husband and children.

I am grateful that we still have a roof over our heads, food in the fridge, gas in the car and the lights are on.

I am grateful to have friends that care about us.

I am grateful to have a quality of life that allows me to walk miles, do yard work or clean house all day.

I am grateful that my mother and my husband's parents are still with us.

I am grateful that my sons have found the loves of their lives and have been warmly embraced by their newly extended families.

I am grateful that G-d is watching over my nephew and niece as they usher a new life into the family.

What are you grateful for today?

Greetings,

I'm Renee living in Ahoskie, NC. I'm 47years old, originally from NY and moved to Durham, NC in 1995. I am single, childless and a Social worker who is an Assistant Professor of Social Work for a HBCU.

Teaching classes at night, prevents me from attending support group meetings in the evenings and I beleive that connecting with others through this site will keep me grounded. I understand the importance of attending support groups going through my journey.

I am having my surgery tomorrow, August 4th and 7am, and I am both excited and anxious. I will be taking along my computer to stay in touch with this group and site and I am confident that this journey will challenging and worthwhile. I look forward to connecting with other!!

Glad I am back home! Aurora Siani gets A+ in my book as does Dr Cua. I also give the male nurse and male assistant A+ as well. They were really great. I wish I had them the whole time there. They were going to argue with me who was going to waltz with me during my walk. When it came the nurse time I wasn't feeling well and in pain and too darn tired. Well I did 2 laps with his assistant. I had the morphine pump for 2 days. And came home on the liquid vicodin. I only took before bed last night, this morning and again before 6. I am sure I will need it before bed. But that is the least amout of time i needed for pain meds. Also I did 15 minutes on my recumbent bike approved by Dr Chua. Seems that my stomach doesn't hurt while I am doing int. I am going in few minutes to get my other 15 minutes. And hopefully tomorrow I will get in 3 times a day of 15 minutes each. Got to keep moving. Drinking my protein drinks. I had my inspire ice cream sandwich share one with my daughter today. Also try the new whey protein bullets had 1 ounce of each flavor, orange, grape and punch. I like the grape and punch. Orange was nasty. Tomorrow i will try the isopure zeo carb in the glass bottle and another shake. Trying to get all my protein. The medicine cups of foods for each meal my hubby, kids and friends get the biggest kick out of it. But you know what i am not hungry. But I still make myself eat it. I do get in my water as I can but drinking alot of protein stuff so that has water in it. taking my vitamins as well. Also my daily lovenox injections for the next 2 weeks. Also I got the IVC filter in. Also I have been passing gas alot and had my first bowel today but it wasn't alot but it was firm which is a good sign. I also put a cup of my miralax in this morning after my bm. Want to keep me regular. Well he said i should no longer need my prevacid that rny cures the acid reflux and said I had no hernia that was seen on the upper gi. Said it was the acid reflux. Well just had got done another 20 minutes on the recumbent bike. So had good success today on moving my body today and following the rules.

Topic: Eating Triggers

We all have eating triggers. They might be related to our environment, or emotions, social settings, our mental state or even our biological needs for fuel.

It's important that we identify our triggers, subtle and obvious, so that we can recognize and manage them. Please think about your eating triggers and let's discuss what they are and ways we can manage them so that we don't become slaves to them.

Topic: RE: Dr. ENOCHS. Great. How was your experience?
Hi Jordan,

So I am a patient of Dr. Enochs as well and I am 4 weeks post op from my Lap RnY.  The wait time is aweful but Dr. Enochs is a good surgeon.  I will be praying you get approved by insurance..

Good Luck

Hi KC,

Even if you have a mild case of sleep apnea, it will still likely be considered a 'comorbidity' that will need to be resolved and that will work in your favor.

Wishing you all the best,

Topic: A recipe

Here's a recipe that I think you'll enjoy!

Shrimp with Corn and Citrus Cabbage Slaw

This wonderful salad was inspired by a shrimp taco recipe that I found it a Real Simple magazine. I made more of the corn and citrus cabbage slaw and used a lite sour cream. This great summertime meal that takes only 20 minutes!

1/3

cup

fresh orange juice

3

Tbs

fresh lime juice

3

Tbs

lite sour cream

Kosher salt and black pepper

1/2

small cabbage (16 oz.), shredded

2

cups

corn kernels

1

jalapeño, seeded and chopped

1

Tbs

olive oil

1

lb

peeled and deveined medium shrimp

1

In a large bowl, whisk the orange and lime juices, sour cream, 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. Add the cabbage, corn and jalapeño and toss to combine. Let sit, tossing occasionally, for 10 minutes.

2

Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the shrimp with ½ tsp salt and ¼ tap pepper. Coo****il opaque throughout, 2 to 3 minutes.

3

Serve the shrimp with the slaw.

Topic: Sleep study last night
Last night I had my sleep study. I didn't think Iwould get much sleep with all of the wires hooked to me but to my surprise I actually slept pretty well. I don't get my official results until the 23rd but my technician said she thinks I only have a mild case and wasn't sure if they will recommend a CPA*****t.
